Geocache Description:

'GRAND' re-opening on January 23, 2005 - see the 1/23/05 entry for more details.

This cache is on the Greenbelt in Manhattan Beach -- it is very easy terrain and a beautiful walk.

The Greenbelt starts near the corner of Sepulveda and Rosecrans and extends through Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach to Herondo Avenue. This 3 3/4 mile long path used to be a spur of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company - also known as the Redondo Spur. The railroad tracks were removed in 1988, replaced with wood chips and the unusual park was created. In Manhattan Beach, the Greenbelt is also known as Veterans Parkway or "The Chips". It is a great location for walking, jogging and dog walking.

Additional information on the RR and Veterans Park can be found at these links (special thanks to Cacher AMTRAKER for assisting with the references):

And here's a picture of the Greenbelt near Live Oak Park (which is 1/2 mile west of the Greenbelt Cache).  You can park here if you want some extra exercise or if you want to split the difference between our MB Micro cache and the Greenbelt Cache.

This cache should be very easy to find as the path is not much more than 150 feet wide in most places. Look for a side path to Valley near the 1/2 mile marker. The cache is located in the lower branches of a large bush. You should not have to trample iceplant to find this cache -- if you find yourself in the middle of the iceplant growth, you are not close to the cache because the cache is within 2 feet of an already worn path. See hints for additional clues.

September 9, 2003 Update -- There is a new cache container and new stash stuff as the previous cache container went AWOL. The new container is painted jet black and is a 2 quart food container about 4x6x8 inches in dimensions. There are lots of new goodies in the cache and the entire inventory is listed in the front of the logbook.

This was our third cache and was placed on January 1, 2002 by the extended Humbys clan.

Enjoy our cache and our neighborhood!
