Kätkön avulla voit tutustua hieman Riihimäen rautateiden historiaan. Koordinaatit vievät sinut HV-1 554 ”Heikki” veturin luo, joka on työskennellyt valtion pääradalla.

By finding this cache you will to get to know little bit of railroad history. Coordinates lead you to locomotive called ”Heikki” HV-1 554. Heikki has operated in main railroad of the state.

Pääratojen verkkoa täydennettiin vuosisadan vaihteesta alkaen lyhyehköillä kapearaideyhteyksillä, joilla uusia paikkakuntia kytkettiin rataverkkoon. Esimerkkinä Hämeessä ovat mm. ratayhteydet Humppila - Forssa ja Riihimäki - Kesijärvi, jotka antoivat mahdollisuuden aiemmin syrjäisten kylien teollisen kehityksen käynnistymiseen. Vasta autokuljetusten kehittyminen sotien jälkeen 1950-luvulla, vei pohjan pois lyhyiltä junakuljetuksilta ja teki kapearaiteiset yhteydet tarpeettomiksi.

Narrow gauge railways were built in the beginning of the 20th century to complement railroad network. Distances were usually short in narrow gauge railways. Examples of these kind of short railways are connections Humppila-Forssa and Riihimäki-Kesijärvi. These railroads enabled industrial development in those areas. Development of car traffic made these narrow railway gauges unnecessary after war in 1950s.
