This cache has been archived.

offline.cacher: The general rule reviewers use to archive a cache is that the cache owner has been notified (through a log entry) by the reviewer and that no response has been forthcoming. This is the case with this cache. As a result it has been archived.
If the owner would like to discuss this issue, please contact me through my geocaching.com profile. Include the GC code for the cache.

Geocache Description:

Enjoy part of a day solving the clue to locate various community landmarks near Lake Anna in Virginia. Use the landmarks to identify the location of a bridge which will, in turn, guide you to the cache. You'll find no difficult terrain but plan on using a boat to reach the Treasure. For best results, do some research before coming. Have Fun!

Lake Anna

This cache, whose name is taken from a line in the original owner's(Disquoi) favorite movie, O Brother Where Art Thou (OBWAT), is located in the vicinity of Lake Anna in Virginia. Just as in the movie, Lake Anna was once rural farmland, flooded to facilitate the production of electric power. The lake has over 250 miles of shoreline, 15 islands, covers 13,000 acres, and has over 20 bridges. Try using only the your computer, the Location Description, a map, your car, and your GPS to locate the position of the caches. Of course, once you've determined the position, you will need a boat to get there (a canoe should do if you plan sufficiently). Canoes and other watercraft are available for hourly or daily rental from various vendors at Lake Anna. If you happen to own or rent a canoe for this quest, don't forget to visit the nearby cache, Up The Creek Without A Paddle.

Cache Location:

You will find this to be a truly religious experience. In the vicinity of Lake Anna lie various small community landmarks. You will need to locate enough of these landmarks to locate a specific bridge. Written under the north end of the bridge are the latitude and longitude of Cache.

The bridge is located 9.94 miles from Ellisville, 3.46 miles from Jerusalem, 3.21 miles from Elk Creek and 1.67 miles from Laurel Hill. It's also a mere 7.37 miles from a Gold Mine. A Peach Grove lies 8.82 miles away and the Rising Sun is only 4.59 miles distant,

Notes:

This cache consists of a bright yellow box. The cache initially contains fishing lures. If you have time, stop by the marina for a chilli dog and grab some fishing themed items for the cache. Say "hello" to Dave. Please sign the log book.

The coordinates provided in the heading are not the location of the actual cache … merely the general location of Lake Anna, Virginia.

All of the landmarks have something in common (a town is not a landmark).

If you want to experience the full challenge of this cache, use only the Location Description above. If you'd like a jump-start, email me for progressively helpful cheats. Please let me know just how much you want to cheat … ask for them by name.

I recommend that you identify the landmarks before making the trip. You may still need to physically locate them once you're here but there are few obstacles if you know what they are before you leave your house.

Call ahead for boat rental information.

If you insist on driving a long distance without having figured out the location of the bridge, I recommend that you request a cheat sheet just in case you can't figure it out. I will confirm the bridge location if you ask.

Need Help?

Cheat #1: I can't figure out what these landmarks are … send me a clue.
Cheat #2: I still can't find these landmarks … send me some coordinates.
Cheat #3: I don't have a clue how to locate the bridge using these landmarks, send me the coordinates of the bridge.
Cheat #4: Why don't you just tell me where the caches are located? (a la Seinfeld)
Cheat #5: I'm here but I can't find the cache … give me a hint?
Cheat #6: I need an aerial photo of the area with the cache locations shown, too. (I'll need an email address so I can send you a Word attachment for this one.
