Suggest starting at N.54° 48.754, W.002° 14.000 for a 5.5 mile
round trip (allow 2-2½ hours). You can also start at Allenheads for
a longer walk. The pub here used to be filled with more rubbish and
bric a brac than you would find in all the cache boxes in all the
world, but I think new owners have cleared it out. The cairn on the
summit is visible for most of the ascent on a clear mostly grassy
path. Look and listen for grouse (no, not Mrs Dan) golden plover
(in summer) and curlew.
The cache is hidden some 400 metres from the summit, but if
you've come this far you may as well go to the top with it's cairn
and trig point. Views in all directions including Blencathra on a
clear day. You don't need to move anything to find the cache which
is a clear container with a blue lid.
