This is a multi-cache that
will challenge more than your cache-hunting skills. There are 3
parts, but you can do as many parts as you wish. The first two
caches are located in Round Valley Regional Park in the East Bay.
The difficulty rating is based on parts 1 and 3. The terrain rating
is based mostly on part 2.
Mission 1: Eye
Test
Earn your fighter pilot’s wings by locating the cache at the
above coordinates. This container is about 4" x 1", and hidden. It
contains:
- Printed Air Force
wings
- Geocache letter.
Select the wings of your
choice. You may log your completion of this part here, or press on
with Mission 2. The coordinates for Mission 2 are on the back of
each pair of wings.
Mission 2:
Physical Conditioning
Now that you have your wings, you will have to "go vertical’
to get to this cache. You can get to within about 0.4 miles of the
cache on the main trail before committing to a 600 foot climb. Your
choice of cow paths or game trails. When you’re half way up,
and cussing me for planting this one, keep in mind that I had to
lug the box up there. If you do this one in summer, bring water.
Wear gaiters or long pants.
The second cache is a
camo-colored ammo box. Original contents:
- A bag of real (junked)
MiG parts, relics of the cold war – take one.
- 5 MiG posters
- 4 MiG drink
coasters
- 2 Russian
pins
- Red light illuminating
key ring
- Sovietski Collection
catalog (you can get your flying togs here)
- Balsa wood glider (Ok, so
it’s not a MiG)
- Aeronautical navigation
chart.
- Geocache
letter
- Log, pen,
pencil
Once you locate the cache,
you may choose just to log in and exchange some item in the cache,
or, you may follow the instructions below, attempt to qualify as an
Ace, and become eligible for a special perk.
Mission 3: Stealth
and Observation Skills
Do you have the right stuff to become an
Ace?
There is a password on the inside cover of the logbook in
the second cache box. E-mail me the password to receive
instructions on how to complete Mission 3, and information about
the perk available for those qualifying as an Ace. Mission 3 is a
one-star for terrain, but may require some persistence on your
part. One piece of "special equipment" is required to complete
Mission 3.
