Geocache Description:

A winter-friendly cache deep in the heart of the 1967 Sundance Mountain burn area.

The easiest way to reach this cache is in winter by snowmobile. At this time of year, cars and trucks can only drive within 15 miles of its location. In summer, a high-clearance 4x4 should be suitable to get to the cache site, although you should be prepared to travel a maze of roads, some of which are relatively narrow and overgrown, and none of which leads directly to the cache. Be aware that the cache is hidden only about 10 feet off of a road, but that this road does not appear on USGS topo maps.

The journey to the cache site will take you through an eerie 56,000-acre burn that is just starting to show signs of coming back. The lack of tree cover leads to great signal reception and distant views down the valleys that cut into the sides of Sundance Mountain.

The name of this cache reflects this setting. It also provides a subtle hint as to the hiding location of the cache. Be forwarned that there is a possibility that the cache hiding spot will be too high to reach after the snow melts (a less-subtle hint!).

If you would like more information on snowmobiling in the Priest Lake area (as well as a map of the trail system that will get you near the cache), see the Priest Lake Chamber of Commerce Visitors Guide web site. Also, if you would like directions on the quickest way to get to the cache via the network of logging roads leading to it, email me and I will send you a GPS track recording.
