Geocache Description:

This cache has you find some objects from the initial coordinates, turn those objects into numbers, and find a perplexing phrase. When you find the phrase mail it to me and you can log a find.

Be careful parking in this area. If you're going to spend some time at the final location remember that tow trucks are on the prowl!

Go to the coordinates above. There are two ways you can be at these coordinates, but you will know you are at the correct location if you have a clear view of the sky. I had a lock on 10 satellites, including WAAS. You'll also see a white railing. Don't see the railing? Go ahead and get the first four clues, and on your way to the fifth the path to the white railing should present itself.

From the initial point walk to the northwest corner, until another step would be perilous.

What store is diagonally across the intersection from you? You'll be looking at its awning.

__ __ __ __ __ = A

How many telephone booths can you see?

__ = B

How many full-size manholes can you see in the intersection?

__ = C

Across the parking lot is a store with a number in "quotes". What is that number?

__ = D

If you're facing any of those four objects, turn to the right and follow the white railing until you're forced to stop again. Watch your step! From this vantage point you can see a yellow "sculpture", a functional sculpture. What shape is it?

__ __ __ __ = E

Turn right and follow the white railing until forced to stop again. I think you'll see where I'm going with this. What word can you see carved into stone at the top of the building across from you? It's a little hard to see at night without a decent flashlight, but clearly visible.

__ __ __ __ = F

And finally, turn right and do it one last time. What's the name of the building with the vertical sign? This sign is red in daylight, but green and white at night. Very surprising when I checked the nighttime visibility! It's also become hard to see now that the trees have leaves -- but you'll know what sign I'm talking about. The name's also on the large sign you're standing under.

__ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ = G

Convert the letters you filled in into numbers like so: A=1, B=2, C=3, . . . . Y=25, Z=26.

Write your numbers in the following chart (B, C and D are already numbers) and then sum up each column of numbers.

Now you can generate the coordinates for the virtual cache.

45° QQ.RRR
122° SS.TTT

QQ = Subtract C from the sum of the first column
RRR = H minus C minus D
SS = The sum of the second column
TTT = H minus the sum of the fourth column minus B minus C

Here's the question: The final coordinates will place you at the doorway of a local business. Above those red doors, on the white frame, is a phrase painted in gold letters. What is the phrase? The phrase is in small letters, not those big gold letters, and hard to see until you get right up to them. E-mail the phrase to me and feel free to log just how much you love math :) If you don't mail me and you log anyway (Grrrr!) I'll have to delete the log. Your reward for doing all this? I'll tell you what the phrase means - or you could just go inside after 3pm and find out. Park carefully if you do!

Many thanks to MarkL32 for the beta testing!
