Please note: To use the services of geocaching.com, you must agree to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

This cache is located at a waterfall, about 1/2 mile from the fishing village of Yelapa, south of Puerto Vallarta on the Bahia de Banderas.
To get to Yelapa, you will need to travel by boat. Either take a water taxi or rent a panga. Best way is to go to Boca de Tomatlan, by taxi or bus, then rent a panga on the beach. Bring your snorkel gear, there are some great coves to explore on the way. The panga driver will bring you to a beach choked with palapa restaurants...we ate at Fanny's and didn't get sick. To find the cache, cross the stream on the right side of the beach, and go up the stairs near the Vortex. Get on the trail towards the town, and follow the signs to Cascada (waterfall). The trail winds up the right side of a stream about 1/2 mile to the waterfall. Once at the waterfall, cross the stream, and look for the cache on the left side of the trail, somewhat higher than the pool. You may have a problem getting an accurate GPS fix, because of the overlying vegetation of the jungle. My GPS indicated accuracy within 100 ft (If problems, check the pictures or the hints). The Cache is a clear tupperware type container, with a geocache sticker, containing miscellaneous nicknacks. This is a pretty popular place, with lots of kids coming and going...you'll need to be pretty cool about the search, so the cache doesn't get found and raided. A RECENT GEOCACHER SUGGESTED AN INPORTANT WARNING TO ALL THAT YOU LOOK BEFORE STICKING YOUR HAND IN TO RETRIEVE THE CACHE...THERE ARE SCORPIONS AROUND!!!

Oh boy this was interesting. At first I got to the pool and the GPS seemed to be dragging me back to another spot to cross the creek via a long concrete bridge and the last log seemed to confirm I was going the right way, until I realised this concrete bridge was a lot more than 20 feet. So it was back to the pool area where I was met by a couple of local kids who wanted to know about the GPS. They did not speak English, buut I seemed to get them roped into helping me find it. To complicate matters, an older guy who may have been the owner of the restaurant called out to me and pointed to the area where it was hidden. So I went up the other concrete ramp, with the two kids buzzing around and looking under rocks, in full view of course of all the people admiring the waterfall and having lunch. Eventually I gave up and spent an hour having lunch waiting for people - including the kids - to leave and just before my empanada de camaron arrived (it took a while) I scampered up to the area and went straight to it.

So the silver haired guy can help you - but the description is accurate - perhaps except for the bamboo rail which is to the LEFT of the trail but on your right if facing the cache and it's not a real rainling but an old piece lying on the ground. And the log before mine is also accurate. The cache is fine and there were no scorpions! I took the Geocoin and left nothing since I think it may be a while before the cache is visited again. Thanks for the fun and the lunch was excellent!

[Came here last year on a 'booze cruise' but they only gave us 20 minutes on the beach, just enough time to walk up to the falls, hang aound for 5-10 minutes for pictures, then all hustled back to the boat with no joy in spite of looking all around. This year my wife consented (barely) to come back. We went to Boca yesterday and checked out the village and water taxi from there but decided today to take the water taxi from old town pier (250 pesos, about 18-19 dollars, each for the round trip) It was a good trip and I had looked at the previous finders cheat pictures beforehand. It still took quite a while to find it and I tried to make it much harder, like terrain 3, than it was. It was frustrating to come all this way and not find it, and feel like a dork besides, so here is help if you want it.] Ybbx ng cerivbhf svaqref cubgbf. Thanx for the heads up on the condition of the
Cat Toy. I can't remember what was attached to the tag but the original log stated:
I'VE ESCAPED, KEEP ME AWAY FROM CATS!

I will let you use your own judgement as to the future of the TB.
