PINO TRAIL CACHE is located in the Pino Canyon East of Albuquerque, NM. This cache is hidden below a rock with a view. The elevation is just above 7,200 ft.
Be sure to take parking money as this cache hunt starts within Elena Gallegos Picnic/Park Area. Park at the Pino Trail Head (140) (Coordinates: N35 09.796 W106 26.205) and walk east on 140 for approximately 1 hour. When you reach N35 10.089 W106 26.399 you will find a fork in the trail, turn northwesterly towards the head of a gully cut that flows west at N35 10.096 W106 26.408. Walk west down the gully cut about 5 minutes until you are east of a campfire pit at N35 10.095 W106 26.494. Walk west approximately 100 ft out of the gully cut where you will find the fire pit. Continue west down the ridge towards the cache. (Best to head slightly west first then north to the cache) Heading directly toward that cache will force you through dense bushes.

The first hour of the hike is a steady climb beginning at 6,500 ft and ending at just above 7,200 ft elevation. The trail is good and well marked. After turning north at the fork the trail is slightly less visible, but easily followed. The turn west down the gully makes this last portion of the cache an off-trail cache. Be cautious in the gully cut and watch your footing. There is an old trail south of the gully cut that will get you to the fire pit, but will bring you in on the south. Once past the fire pit the trails disappear making your last 300 ft to the cache a challenge. The grade from the fire pit to the cache is moderate (no all fours needed).

Finally got around to finding this one. It was a beautiful fall day with all the wildflowers in bloom and the leaves turning. Nice place to sit down and rest for a few minutes. TNLNSL Thanks for the cache!

Out caching on the Pino after work today. I stopped here for a snack and enjoyed the views and the sounds of the wind whispering through the pines, and the gurgling creek below. TFTC!

8-)

This was Christy's and my first time geocaching--
Very nice walk, I've hiked the Pino Trail for years and just started to rediscover the trail through geocaching... Great time and great find.

There were a few people behind us...looked a bit out of shape and ill prepared--so I left them a bottle of water. I hope they found the cache.
