The first cache in Vienna where you can do the whole search indoors, so it is perfectly suited for a rainy day!
The hiding place is less than a 100 m from the starting point, and at the same altitude. Nevertheless it might take you up to an hour, depending on your skills.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Enter the building in front of you. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Avoid attracting attention, as the people working here might be bookworm’s enemies.

Since bookworm is known to tremendously love dictionaries and enciclopedias proceed to 1b, to the area of books that must not be borrowed. Most of the time bookworm leaves marks, sometimes he tries to cover the tracks.

Get the following dictionaries, translating from German into a foreign language and try to locate “bookworm” (in German: “Bücherwurm”).

PL.FZ - Ancient Tracks in the Land of Pyramids

Open the book and look for “bookworm”. Since this location is an ancient one it is possible that bookworm or the passage of time covered his tracks. As bookworm is known to be orderly and loyal to the alphabetic order you can assume that he always stayed at a certain position in column two of the page you were expecting him to appear. Let us call this position (x). Bookworm has often been seen in the gym and is admired for his well trained six-pack. Therefore add six to x, transform the resulting number into the corresponding character (1=A, 2=B, ..., 26=Z) and call the result “M”.

PL.FL – Footprints

This time you can clearly identify bookworm’s footprints. In the ancient times they were characterized by two identical characters in a single word that are not consecutive. Record this character and call it “O”.

PL.FU – Balaton

Try again to locate bookworm. At the head of the page you can see a three digit number. Divide this number by 68, transform the result into the corresponding character and call the result “S”.

PL.SD Vora - Bookworm’s Girl Friend

Look for bookworm. Bookworm is often seen at the home of his girlfriend, another animal fond of books. Bookworm’s girlfriend lives afield at a certain house number. If you can find bookworm there transform this number into the corresponding character and call the result “W” otherwise look more carefully.

VL.A New – The Enemy

Now turn around and go to the shelf with the books marked “VL.A New”. Look for bookworm among the ones with a partially blue spine. Close to bookworm you can find a famous scientist who significantly contributed to the development of computers by the invention of a special algebra. As computers may add to the vision of the paperless office, this man is a deadly enemy of bookworm. Record the first letter of his first name and call it “R”.

Bookworm’s Domicile

Now, try to rearrange the five letters M,O,S,W,R in such a way that the resulting string gives a sensible word in English.
Finally replace these letters by the characters they represent. If you correctly followed all the traces you can visit bookworm spending his holidays in his styrian domicile.

July 11 by snake71 (1412 found) Nachdem ich recht oft hier bin und durch die Regale stöber, hab ich heute etwas bestimmtes für mich gesucht.Wie ich so meinen Bücherstapel wieder schnappe, seh ich noch 3 ganz interessante ?. Neugierig wie ich bin acker ich mich durchs Regal und sry..war echt nicht geplant aber mir viel der Wurm sprichwörtlich in die Hand. Damit hab ich echt nicht gerechnet, mag sein daß ich doch ein Händchen für mein Specialgebiet im benachbartem Regal habe. Ich hol die Wurmsuche aber sicher nach. Dei Ferien sind lang und die Abende muß ich grad ohne TV verbringen. TFTC. [view this log]

May 19 by tomduck (1453 found) Da ich ein Vielleser bin, aber die gelesenen Bücher lieber in meinem Bücherregal stehen habe, suche ich die Wiener Bibliotheken eher selten auf - wenn, dann eigentlich nur, um einen "exotischen" AL-Autor zu finden (ja, die gibt es ). Letzte Woche wollte ich wieder so einen Exoten ausleihen, daher habe ich einfach einmal die Beschreibung des Bookworm ausgedruckt. Da ich erst um 18 Uhr in der Bibliothek war, konnte ich nur die Ancient Tracks lokalisieren (die sind entgegen der Note der Owner vom September 2008 eigentlich ganz einfach zu finden). Zwei Tage später ist mir dann eingefallen, wer denn der Enemy sein könnte - kurz recherchiert und ich hatte einen weiteren Wert. Dann bin ich noch einmal in die Bibliothek gegangen und habe zwei weitere Spuren des Bookworms gefunden (allerdings nicht dort, wo ich sie vermutet hätte - das System der Bibliotheken ist ein ganz eigenes, für mich nicht so leicht zu durchschauendes), lediglich am Balaton wurde ich nicht fündig - das scheint tatsächlich verschwunden zu sein. Zwar konnte ich das Feriendomizil des Wurms eruieren, finden konnte ich es aber nicht. Nach mehr als einer Stunde Suche habe ich dann vorerst frustriert aufgegeben. Den Owner kontaktiert, ob denn meine Lösung überhaupt stimmt - da war alles in Ordnung. Bei den letzten Findern dann auch noch um einen Tipp gebettelt, um die Suche zu verkürzen und um nicht unnötig aufzufallen. Heute war es dann soweit - nach kurzer Suche habe ich den Wurm kurz aus seinem Versteck gelassen. Die Rätsel haben mir sehr gut gefallen, vielen Dank dafür! TFTC [view this log]

March 30 by abrasax (276 found) Von einem befreundeten Doppelnagetier mitgerissen, begab ich mich auf die Jagd nach dem mysteriös verschollenenen shu-baobèi. Obwohl sich dieser schon die längste Zeit verleugnen ließ, hatten wir die berechtigte Hoffnung, ihn im genannten Domizil antreffen zu können. Obwohl der Apetit des gusano augenscheinlich so ausgeprägt ist, dass er einen Teil seiner Spuren bereits verschlungen hat, gelang es uns, ihn ohne grausame Folter des Owners aufzuspüren. Als wir ihn erblickten tat mir der arme verme, der bereits sooo lange in Abgeschiedenheit verbrachte, derart leid, dass ich nah dran war, ihn gleich mitzunehmen. Meine Linke musste ihn regelrecht meiner Rechten entreissen, dass ich ihn nicht auf direktem Weg nach draussen bringe. Also lasst euch nicht von Verleugnungen blenden und besucht ihn, oder ich überleg es mir noch anders und rette den armen Schlingel.
