We like to discover nice views, and given that this is LA, free ones are hard to come by. Here is another neat view: The Hollywood Reservoir. There are views of the Hollywood sign above the lake, and the City. The bridge is a rare sample of early 20th century architecture (that may not sound old, but this is LA). Please note, the Reservoir has posted (daytime) hours, please for the rep of Geocaching, and the future of this cache don't visit when it's closed. Guarding a dam may sound kind of silly, but Water Department security take their work very seriously.
To get here, start at Cahuenga and Sunset, go North on Cahuenga and make a right on a small street called Odin. Make the 1st left (1 way street) and a left again when that dead ends. Follow this street around a hair pin curve and up and over to the left. The street will dead end at the reservoir. I've added a map to help.
This is a great place to skate or bike, but there's construction going on so it ain't too pretty right now. This cache is family and dog friendly.
The hiding spot is above the road that circles the dam, and is marked by an X (restored by nice geocachers). See the clue below for specific instructions. For the adventurous at heart, there is a little trail that ascends another 40 feet onto a grassy flat ledge with a gorgeous view of downtown; a wonderful place for a picnic, but warning it's steep and about a foot wide.
