Geocache Description:

Cache is a 1.1 Litre Lock & Lock Container situated on the Southeast slope not far from the summit of Tolmount (3143ft), just of Jocks Road and just inside the County of Angus. Please ensure that you are well prepared with the correct equipment for a Day on the hills, and that you leave your route with someone. And check the weather forecast. Cache may be difficult to find in the winter due to snow! Oh and you may have to scramble around a bit on the rocks.

I would like to thank "Team Clova" for allowing me to come into Angus to add this to their series "Angus Glens" Caches.

Map Sheet 44 is required to do the Cache from Glen Doll and 43 required if doing the full Jocks Road, or if coming in from Auchallater.

They say there's a place
where dreams have all gone
They never said where
but I think I know
It's miles through the night
just over the dawn
on the road that will take me home

Jock's Road road was originally a Drover route however Duncan MacPherson, a rich Scot, returned from his stay in Australia in the late 19th century to buy the Glen Doll Estate and immediately put a ban on people traversing his land, upsetting many folks such as shepherds for example.

A certain John Winter (thus the name Jock) defied his ban, resulting in the Scottish Right of Way Society setting up right of way signs on the estate and after many a court battle, going all the way to the House of Lords, MacPherson eventually lost his battle in 1888, leaving both him and the Right of Way people bankrupt.

Tolmount (pr: Toll-moon) is Located on the border between Aberdeenshire and Angus, Tolmount rises to a height of 958m (3143 feet) and has a summit covered in scattered broken slabs of granite. Its name originates from Gaelic and means "Hill of the Valley" (Doll).

Despite their modest height, walking and climbing in the Scottish mountains may be made treacherous by their latitude and exposure to Atlantic weather systems. Even in summer, conditions can be atrocious; thick fog, strong winds, driving rain and freezing summit temperatures are commonplace.

Hazards you may encounter include:
Moorland Terrain, few distinct landmarks, Navigation Difficult.
Crags near summit.
Boggy areas
River/Stream levels can increase markedly in one day.

Temperature decreases by 1 degree C for every 100m of ascent.

Messages are updated daily, and forecasts are given for a few days ahead wherever possible.

The Red Stag stalking season is from 1 July to 20 October. The dates that estates start stalking varies. September and October are particularly busy months, when stalking is often taking place six days a week. Hinds are culled from 21 October to 15 February, with most activity before Christmas
