This geocache is located in the Boring Lava Field, near the top of
a small shield volcano. This volcano is of the type common in
Hawaii and was formed during the Plio-Pleistocene geologic era.
The cache is named in honor of a famous scientist, diplomat and
humanitarian, who is not well known in the USA. The Nobel Peace
Prize was awarded to the "honored" for work done repatriating
refugees after the First World War.
1. Near the given coordinates, find a multi-trunk oak tree. From
this tree, travel 0.16 mile on a heading of 304°.
2. At the new location; find, on a rock outcropping, a circular
brass marker bearing an arrow. Note your position. There are two
dates stamped on the marker. Take the last two digits of the more
recent date and substitute them for the last two digits of your
current latitude. Take one half of the "honored's" age at the time
of death, and subtract those digits from the last two digits of
your current longitude. Then subtract the year (last 2 digits) the
"honored" received the Nobel Peace Prize from one-half his age at
death. Add 50% of this amount to the longitude coordinate you are
computing. Proceed to the new coordinate location.
3. From the concrete structure at this approximate position:
Upset one, or down set three,
Puts you where you want to be.
From this spot, facing down,
A sinister turn one quarter round.
4. Proceed FRAM, a few paces; the exact number being determined
by the age of the volcano, divided by the number of vents that
formed this specific local prominence, times ten to the negative
fifth power. The cache is close by. It is a 4" diameter cylinder
about 18" long.
