Located at the north end of Sandia Mtn. Wilderness. This is a fee
area ($3.00). It's about a 1.75 mi. hike, elev. gain 1400 ft.
We are revising the description for this cache, with more details
& waypoints at key locations, due to the number of people who
went off-trail too early (something you definitely want to avoid)!
Take Hwy. 165 (exit 242 on I-25) east towards Placitas. Go about 5
miles & turn right on Tunnel Springs Road (F.R. 231) Go about
1.3 miles to the Agua Sarca Trailhead (just before the Tunnel
Springs/North Crest Trailhead). The trail follows an old jeep trail
for over a mile, then gets narrower and steeper- but it does have
shade! About .75 mi. in there's a fork in the trail (N35 16.919
W106 26.678), go left. A little farther along (N35 16.784 W106
26.571), go straight (left) to stay on the main trail. This is
where the trail gets narrower and steeper. Go left again at a "T"
(N35 16.709 W106 26.490). The nearby spring is a great place for a
rest. When you come to another "T" (N35 16.574 W106 26.489), this
time go right. Follow the cairns to stay on the trail until you
reach the stone structure (N35 16.478 W106 26.727). Continue up the
trail a very short distance before bushwacking the last 0.14 mi. to
the cache. The cache (an ammo can) is about 700 ft. off the trail.
Original contents: compass, earplugs, lip-whistle, card game,
belt-clip keyring, Ecuadoran coin, glow-in-the-dark pelycosaur,
impact-activated light-up ball, flute, beads, slinky, glass wipe,
bandaids, sunglasses, big red bug, polished rock, pocket knife.
Cache elevation 7770 ft.
Hope you enjoy the hike and the view!

September 18, 2009 by frankandginny (3922 found) Nice hike to this on today. We followed the waypoints. Fantastic view that was cut short because Moki took off after something in the woods and we had to follow. We were concerned about the BIG CAT print we found earlier. No encounter, Moki wandered back. Thanks for the Cache.

March 25, 2009 by RockyMtnRidgeRunner (548 found) Wow factor = 4 (Awesome!) A fine hike to some excellent views. Surprisingly, this exposed spot on the ridge was one of the least windy I found today, so I could take my time and enjoy it. I followed your directions, and the bushwhacking at the end wasn't too bad. TFTC

October 2, 2008 by LUCKYSTRIKE1 (2342 found) #1607 Manzano Wolfe and I hiked up the Agua Sarca Trail to the N. Crest Trail, then back down the Ojo Del Orno Route to finish the day. Very nice overlook and cache location. I was surprised to see this one hadn't been found since August of 2007. It's still there and it's still in great shape. Now off to "North Sandias MRP", and then back down to Tunnel Springs. Thanks for the fun!! SL
