Leave plenty of time to do this cache as it will take longer than the distance implies. Remember that every section that you go up, you will probably also be coming down.
There is good parking near N21° 33.263 - W157° 52.216, just past the bus stop. The trailhead itself is near N21° 33.426 - W157° 52.038. It is a faint trail, but pretty obvious if you are looking for it.
This hike offers some beautiful views of Kahana Bay and the Kahana Valley. Bring your book on Hawai‘ian plants as there are lots of native plants that line the trail. There is also a hei‘au along the way built to bring good fishing. The fish pond across the road from where the trail begins was supposedly built by the menehune.
The cache itself is an ammo box with a silver geocaching logo stenciled to the side. If The Tick had not pleaded with Trango, the overall difficulty probably would have been 5 instead of 2. In the end it was decided the hike was hard enough and that placing the cache along a difficult place to get to might bring more danger than was warranted. Bring plenty of water as there is none on the hike itself.
The trail leading to this cache is part of a loop trail for very experienced hikers. Like the cache trail itself, the entire trail is very steep and crosses some razor ridges, but offering some beautiful views to those that are able to make the hike.
