In a public park, short walk from parking, a liitle swampy after a rain.

A small 3 inch round plastic container in a hollow tree. Just a few trinkets inside, not much room for anything of any size. Should be an easy find except for the tree cover which might affect GPS signals. Be sure to hide the container after you log your visit. Be discreet as the park may be busy. Park is open dawn 'till dusk.

Friend and I went on lunch and drove round and round, finally figured how to get in. Watched some police do a crazy, fake shot gun practice formation as we headed to the cache. High heels and mud don't mix. Took nothing, wasn't able to take travel bugs since I don't go anywhere : )

On June 23, 2008 I made my first find right here at Kilmer. I returned today on the one year anniversary of that find. I have found 496 caches since. I was here last year at the same evening hour and I recognized the lighting shining through the trees as the same. Got bit by probably the same number of mosquitoes that I did a year ago. Interestingly, I don't remember there being so much PI, but that is because I was oblivious to PI until my first bad rash after a day of geocaching. The container appears to be holding up, but the contents are few and far between compared to what I remember. Log is full but someone added an additional logsheet. I traded an achievement geocoin for an easter egg geocoin. Thanks again, marty621.

#324 - I went out with my son today to do some caches that he had already done and he certainly was a help to me. In addition to "driving" the GPS, he offered some very helpful hints so that I didn't have to spend a lot of time looking. Most of the ones that we chose were relatively easy so it really didn't take long for me to find most of them and this was the first of nine that I found today. I have to thank TheMadRussian for all of his help today. He was able to find a few that he hadn't found before but I don't remember which ones they were so I will let him explain that in his logs. The only difficult issue with this one is that the area was certainly still full of water from the recent rains that we've had. Other than that, it was an easy find - SL - TNLN - TFTC.

Back visiting the stomping grounds of my distant youth. I didn't know this park was here, looks like it's been here quite a while, too. It took longer to find the entrance than it did to find the cache. Definitely had to step carefully to keep my feet dry after the heavy rain. This was our very first geocache find! The boys (6 & 10 yrs) had a ball searching. My etrex vista still showed we were something like 31 ft away so now I have a better idea of just how much weight to put on this unit... then again, maybe it was affected by the tree cover... then again, maybe this is well within the usual margin of error...

Not being too sure what to expect, we took nothing and left nothing (except the log book entry). Anyway, we should do another one soon!

Many thanks from Rob, Karen, Christopher, and Raleigh.

This cache always popped up in my searches when I would do caches in the Metuchen area, but I never quite figured out where it was. I still didn't seem to find the proper way in today as I parked at the end of a residential street off of Route 27, so my walk was a little bit longer then necessary. Cute little park and nice hiding spot. Of course I ended up on the wrong side and had to hop across. I didn't see a TB, but then I didn't really take out all of the contents since I was sort of in a hurry. TLNSL. I rehid it a little better, still in the same spot but not as obvious. The end of the story....

Now I'm annoyed and upset. I have to get new keys made...these are Medecos so they are expensive and hard to get made. I take a good look through the car Sunday morning. I clean out the back and throw trash out. I throw out Paulo's GC notes. No keys.

To calm down, I go out to my new Flushing Bay GC (11354) that I had disabled to replace it. I walk a quarter mile to the site and realize I left the decon in the car. Walk back. Get almost to the site again and the batteries die. Back to the car again. Now I'm really annoyed. Let me take one last look around the car ... batteries, GPSr, container, car keys, logbook, you got' em all. As I reach over the seat to do something, I look down and the missing keys are on the floor. I looked in that spot at least 5 times and they were not there. Spooky!

#379 12/13 This was the start of the end. Paulo wanted a dozen caches. It was already 5 pm and getting dark. It was also pouring rain. We were the only people in the park except for the geese. Found easy way in, stepped over the hint and found cache easily. It was a good size and I had a TB that I wanted to launch..Little Fat Guy.. His mission is to go to places where he can get in trouble. I figured a soccer field was as good a place as any. The Little Fat Guy made MY life miserable. I told Paulo to log us in while I go back to the car to get the TB as I did not know if we would get to #13. I make my way back to the cache and drop off TB and wooden nickle and we sign book. We get back to the car and Paulo opens the door. The alarm goes off. I look for my keys to shut the alrm off and no keys! We look in the abck, we look on the floor, we look under the car...nothing. Alarm resets and goes off again. It's pouring rain out by now. I had a new alarm put in last spring and didn't know how to shut it off. I fumble for my emergency key. Turn ignition. Nothing happened and alarm continues. I fumble around under dash and somehow shut it off. Nothing in pockets. Must be back at GZ. We retrace my steps, look in cache. Nope not there. Retrace steps again. Figure I can drive home with my emergency key. Halfway between cache and car Paulo finds keys in the grass! Phew that was a close one.

But the story continues. We stop at the Wait cemetery site on way home for our 13th cache. We leave for hoem and everything's cool. I drop Paulo off and head for home. We did a very successful 100 mile GC tour today. I feel good. I stop at Boston market for dinner, get home and put car in garage. I go upstairs and look for my mailbox key. Can't find it! I look through my pockets. Here we go again. I look for my emergency apartment key, can't find that either. Now what??? Went back to car. Still nothing. I remember they were on seat when I was at GZ parking lot. Did I drop them when I got back in? Did I drop them at the gas station? Looked for emergncy key again and thankfully got in house. HOPEFULLY I will find them in car tomorrow.

Found this cache on an overcast Friday on the drive back from work. Did not sign the log, but I plan to bring some friends back on Monday after work to show them the "joys of geocaching".

Also, used this cache to log travel miles for two Travel Bugs that I have brought back to NJ from the West Coast.

On the 7th day our our road trip to NJ, we spent nearly all day in NJ, wandering the streets and seeing the sites, and really didnt have much chance to cache. I did go grab this one early in the morning prior to our trip to NYC, where we went to the Natural History Museum, WTC site, Staten Island Ferry, Statue of Liberty, Greenwich village, and spent the most time in the East Village at the funky shops.

This cache was nearest to our hotel in Edison, the Clarion. It was within walking distance and is a very nice park. TFTC.

Found this one with no problem. I grew up no more than a mile from this spot. I learned to fish at this pond. This is where I would cross the tracks to get to a friends house. My dad still lives there so I went for this one yesterday while I was in the area. Besides parking in the farthest lot from the cache I was fine. Sorry I had nothing to leave but I took a car that has a traveler tag on it. I now live in PA so I figured travel it will do.

Bugbait knew about this park from back in the day when he did Animal Control. As we made our way towards the cache, we interupted a flock of geese. When we got relatively close to the cache, our GPS kept pointing on the other side of this little creek. Bugbait slid across and cracked the ice which was not good for me. I searched for a good place to jump and didn't quite make it. Was looking around when Bugbait hollered he had found it. It was right where I jumped! I was too busy looking for a spot I wouldn't fall in (well that didnt work).

I knew there was a park tucked back there but had no idea how to get into it. I did find two entrances but I could see another parking lot in the distance whose entrance eluded me because of dead end streets. It was a gorgeous day, though, and I laughed. Nice spot. Have lived within a few miles of this cache for many years and never this park was here. The 9.11 memorial adds some extra meaning to the visit. The size and shape of the pond may also allow for some small, hand launched r/c slope soaring. Will sure give it a try some time in the near future.

We took the nice shells from florida and the tomb raider cards and left three cool blue stones.

First GPS reading had us looking about 50 feet away. After a couple of minutes, I glanced down at the unit and noticed it showing us off the mark. Once on target, no prob with the find.

Thanks!

[#126] Tomorrow will be my last day here on business from Long Island. It rained last night so every cache I went to today was like a swamp area. First I have no idea how I found the park but I evidently approached it the wrong way as I ended up driving onto a field, but not willing to give up just drove over the curb and parked in the parking lot just like nothing was strange about approaching the parking lot from that direction. There were some muggles playing nearby but I don’t think they noticed me. I took one look at the swamped area and almost gave up. Then I decided just to try another approach and it turned out to be the smart way to get to the cache. Nicely hidden. I was glad that it was easy to find my way back to the hotel. I took a small lock and left several packs of trading cards and a Cat in the hat figurine. Thanks for the cache Marty621.

Stopped by to grab this one on our way through NJ. We were taking 27 for awhile and this looked pretty close. When we arrived, there was no one around, but after about 10 minutes, the place came alive. By the time we got back to the car, there were people everywhere, so be sneaky!! Cache area was wet, but cache was dry and well hidden. There are a bunch of possible spots to hide, and a flooded ditch between them, so it took about 10 minutes to locate, once we entered the woods. I almost gave up on this one. I found the hollow tree alright but no amount of sifting through the crumbled bark produced a cache. I thought maybe the two ducks I scared off had evicted it. I finally explored a nook (cranny?) that I hadn't before and lo and behold I produced a cache! Walking away from the cache I finally found a place to step where I could sink up to my ankle in muck. I had been so careful too!

The cache and it's contents are in good condition. Nice and dry. I wanted to take the laser key chain but I had nothing of similar value (that would fit) so I merely left my signature.

When I went to replace the cache I noticed some gentleman sitting on a nearby park bench who was trying not to seem as if he were interested in what I was doing. I waited a few minutes for him to leave. When he showed no inclination to do so I decided I better walk away with the cache lest I reveal it's hiding place.

I decided to sit on a bench nearby him and wait him out. Unfortunately, he was eating his lunch and seemed to be in no hurry. 10 minutes or so later he got up once to throw out his garbage. I was happy to see him go but he merely sat down on the opposite side of the picnic table to admire the view. Finally, he got up and PUSHED his bike away at a leisurely clip.

I let him get a nice lead (I had a bad moment where he headed in the direction of the cache. I think I saw a sleeping bag or blanket back there. Maybe he was waiting for me to leave? But no he headed down the tracks to some other place.) On the path back to the cache hiding spot I encountered a wild-eyed gentleman in a bright red jacket disemboweling a discarded electric typewriter. He paused long enough to GLARE at me and make sure I wasn't going to rob him of his kill. I walked carefully past him and back to the cache. Looking around I did my best to ensure that no one was watching and returned the container.

Nice park. Weird people. Check out the memorial to 9-11.

Second of 2 caches today. 4:30PM #6 total. Came here from (Wrestling Roots). The trees gave my Vista a run for its money. But, after crossing stream (frozen solid) found hollow with no help from GPS. There was some ice in bottom of container, but I could find no hole where it got in. The top was on securely also. I SIGNED the log book, TOOK a beautiful seashell for my niece (thanks ED634), and LEFT a WG$. Replaced container back in its excellent spot and left happy. Great cache sight and perfect weather for it. 51 degrees.

After the recent snow we had the area where the cache was was a little swampy but not that bad. Never knew this park was here. Nice place. Didn't take too long to find the cache. Signed the logbook. Took the rubber ducky and left a PEZ dispenser. Thanks.

Didn't know this park was there. I don't think it was when I grew up here. There was no could about it, I got my feet wet! Left duck from Not Reely Hard cache and some San Diego postcards. We have over 900 sites in S.D. alone, you should come try them sometime for vacation. Here for my 30 year high school reunion from Franklin High. Darrah

#18. This area near the cache was definately a little wet. Got to the cache with some care. Cache was very dry and in good order. Interesting container, wonder what it was in it's previous life. Took a Where's George, left a Sacagawea Dollar.

This was the third of eight for the day. The cache is in good condition. TN left a BUZZ sticker in the lid of the container.
Thanks

our first cache! this was just a short ride from my place, and though we didn't park as close as we could have, we certainly found it without a whole lot of effort. success! if only the rest of day 1 went so well!

Find #43 1:30pm
OK, it was just such a nice day today, I decided to do something I haven't done in ages, and go find a cache. Picked out 2 easy ones to knock off, This one and Balls in the Park.
Went for BITP first, but there were too many people in the area, so I decided to drive the 4 miles over to here. 20 minutes of central NJ traffic later.......
Another park I never knew about, and I worked in the area for years. Parked only a few hundred feet from the cache. I've done plenty of Marty's caches, so I just KNOW it can't be this easy, right?
Walking thru the park, trying to think whats in store for me. A devious swamp maybe? A stream to jump across?
I'm just about to head down a trail that looks to be where I want to go, when I notice something odd.
There is a person napping on a chaise lounge in the middle of the trail!
So I keep looking for another way into the woods. I soon find it, go in a bit, then start bushwhacking back to where the cache should be. Well, where the cache should be is also about 20ft from where this guy decided to take a nap. DAMN! I back track to my car, and wait about 20 minutes. Nope. Not leaving. So I leave and do some errands, come back 30 minutes later. Mr Sleepyhead is just heading out of the woods. Great.
Off I go, right into the woods, and right to the cache. Typical Marty cache. NOT a typical Marty hide! Wow, that was too easy! As always, Marty's waypoint is dead on, I'm reading 3ft at the cache.
Took the flag hackysack, it will be perfect for balls in the Park. Left a www.wheresgeorge.com dollar

A good easy find.. my first find of a non virtual cache! There's tree cover and the area is nice and secluded. I showed up a day after a hard rain int he area, but while moist, the area wasn't too swampy (I guess due to the drought situation). The tree cover didn't seem to affect the GPS too much.

In the vicinity is a bridge at the opark that gives you a nice view of the whole area. Coordinates:

This was the first geocache find with my wife and 9 year old kid, and my first find in NJ (for some strange reason, although I live in NJ, my first opprotunity to geocache came while I was in Utah - go figure). It was a family outing, and the kid found the right tree first, but I found the hidden cache. This would definitely be much harder if it were still wet. I enjoyed the .55 mile walk on the loop around the lake. It's a nice little park, and there were only a handful of people we saw while we were there. Nothing taken, nothing left. Thanks for a relatively easy one to intruduce my family to this geocaching stuff.

I came here during a break from work today to get this mini-milestone (#50) cache for Skully & Mulder et al. I got to the parking lot at about 10:15 am. The park was completely empty except for two guys working on the grounds and two guys on bikes. GPSr indicated I was about 400’ to the cache from the parking area. Found the tree without a problem and started poking around but couldn’t find it. I finally got the guts to reach in with my hand and feel for it – still no luck. I reached in with the stick again and noticed to hole on the right side of the opening goes down at least 3’! I figured it must have fallen down the hole. Made one final attempt before giving up and found it! Took nothing – left 2 state quarters and signed the logbook. I replaced the container where it was – I don’t think it could possibly fall down the hole from where it is. Thanks for a little break from work and getting us to this mini-milestone.

Believe it or not, this was a technological cache.

First, here I was taking my wife on a geocache...showing her how much fun and easy this avocation is... So I took to this 1 star difficulty cache...

So I find the hollow tree pretty easily. No problem. I see that the hollowness of the tree is full of nature's debris. So I proceed to clear it and low and behold...no 3 inch container. So I start to stretch my arm in and around the innards of the tree, so much I almost re-simulated my old rotor cuff wound...and still no cache...did it get trashed...can't be...

So now here comes the technology...I took my video camera and stuck it in the tree made a 320 degree picture of the guts of the tree (see my web site)...and voila!!!

As usual just took pictures.

Thanks for the adventure!

Find #6. This was a nice little cache, well placed in the tree. I was rather paranoid of people watching as it seems to be a popular spot for people on lunch break. I somehow scared the geese as I rambled out of woods. Took nothing, left nothing.

My first cache! Just got a GPS, and couldn't resist trying out a little geocaching, just to see what it was like. I can't see myself doing a whole lot of this or going after tough caches, but the easy ones are quite fun.
Had to go back again, since I didn't read the hint properly and didn't know to look for a hollow tree. Once I knew that, it wasn't too tough to find.
Took a toy soccer ball, left a silly button and a wheresgeorge dollar.

Now I'm feeling really silly...After finding 18 area caches with non-trivial difficulty levels on Sunday, this was the second difficulty one to hand me defeat tonight. I thought I'd get some caching in after work today, but I was just having bad cache karma. I found the park. K found a way to the target. I found the tree that was a lovely match to the prose. My GPS said w/in 2 feet of the suggested location. What could be better? But I couldn't find the container.

Granted it was nearing dark so it's possible that I just couldn't see or feel a cache container. Or I was in the wrong place. Maybe the GeoGods are punishing me or something....

If I'm back in the area, I'll try again. Still, I enjoyed the tour of the park. Thanx!

Found it.

Drove into every parking lot, and didn't like any of them. Spied the ideal lot from across the park. Of course, we didn't drive in via the correct route - I won't go into details. Maybe it's time my husband retired his driving duties . . . my stomach can't take it.

Interesting how we don't seem to mind trekking a mile through the woods, but always have to find the optimal parking spot. A symptom of living in the fine state of NJ, no doubt. But I digress . . .

Once our vehicle was situated it was a short walk to the cache. Nice day, a little muddy, with much, much rollerblading afoot.

Thanks for the easy find . Nice park - lived in the area most of my life, and never knew it was there.

Find #409. I had a couple of school concerts in Newark this morning, and since this was the closest cache, I went for it. I parked near the municipal building, because I wanted to go look at the memorial, and then hiked over. Received a few strange looks wearing my 'pit black.'

All right ... what have the space aliens done with Marty621?

No wading through muck up to my knees/waist/chest?
No machete required to get through the vegetation??
No 'strings attached' to the cache???

I entered the woods from the soccer field; no one was playing at this time of day. I quickly came to the mucky ditch, and easily crossed it via the handy tree limb. GPS pointed right THERE, and that's where the cache was! I traded the Where's George bills. Back at the car, I noted the roundtrip had been .4 mile, and I probably parked as far from this cache as anyone would. Thanks!

#613 Parked as close as possible. Walked across a patch of woods to the correct patch of woods and so we didn't disrupt soccer practice. The ground was a bit wet and the leaves at one spot were pretty deep but it wasn't a difficult bushwhack. Once we got to the correct area, there really was only one place to look so it was the easiest find today. Pretty good hiding spot though because I don't think the container is obvious unless you are looking for it. And nice camo job on the signature Marty621 container. Took the Woolly Willy. Left some Where's George (visit link) dollar bills. Thanks.
