Geocache Description:

A popular Austin, TX park, many of you know it well already! See below for difficulty information.

West of house
You are standing in an open field west of a white house with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here ...

With that line began one of the first adventure games for personal computers. Originally written in June of 1977 by Marc Blank, Bruce K Daniels, Tim Anderson, and Dave Lebling, Zork was written as a text-based adventure game. Eventually, the writers went on to form the company Infocom. The rest is history ... and the inspiration for this cache.

About the park: This great park has hard-packed trails and a bit of up and down, but if you take the wrong trail you could easily make this a 4 or 5 mile hike instead of 2! Watch out for the abundant poison plants -- you should be able to keep away from them for the most part, but there is poison ivy in TREE form in this park. I did my best to keep you away from PI at the cache sites, so if you stay on the trail you should be OK. Abundant parking at the swimming pool near a trailhead, coords. N 30°24.030 W097°41.057, but several other trailheads exist (that may be closer to your goal).

WARNING #1: take several waypoints as you progress, starting with your car. There are MANY trails in this park, and even if you are familiar with most of it you could find yourself a bit misplaced.
WARNING #2: although there is not a lot of bushwhacking on this cache, it is fairly intense (read that "thorny bushes"). Dress appropriately.

This is my first cache to hide -- please let me know what you think!

The first two legs are micro-cache redirectors; third leg is a standard cache with a GREAT initial stash (if Moosiegirl did say so herself!) --

  • three copies of a CD containing the original Zork I, II and III and The Undiscovered Underground (all freeware available on the web)
  • a Rubik's cube Keychain
  • a pair of sterling silver/turquoise/red coral dangly earrings
  • a black nylon fanny pack
  • a Duncan Hyper Imperial Yo-Yo
  • an Nvidia calculator
  • a red coil keychain with a spring hook
  • a yellow "rubber ducky"
  • a "here kitty" toy with a pull ring and moving "wings"
  • a Thomas Kincaide mini-puzzle in a house-shaped box

Have a blast! I can hardly wait to see who tackles this one first.
