Sargent 4 X 4 Hydrocache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Breaktrack: This cache was our first, and thusly, the hardest to let go of. As it has become extremely difficult to get to it, and as no one has even attempted to find it in over a year, I am archiving this cache. It was a difficult decision to make, but it must be done. I will be placing a new one on the accessible portion of the barrier island soon.

Geocache Description:

This cache is now officially a HYDRO-cache, you'll have to have a BOAT to get to it!!!

This cache is a victim of the unpredictable weather on the Gulf Coast of Texas. The storms we had a while back stirred up enough wave action that a new cut was formed across the barrier island where this cache resides. I went to try and check on the cache itself today (03/22/03) and was careful to go right at low tide, but no dice. It doesn't get shallow enough to drive across, or even wade across. It's a SWIM!!! So if you want to hit this one, feel free, but you'll now need a boat, canoe, kayak, cruise ship, etc. There is a public boat ramp at N 28 52.110, W 095 26.948, and it's not too far from the cache location.

I'm not going to change the name of this one, it has sentimental value to me. I'm planning on adding a new cache you can drive to near Sargent soon.

The cache is a 7.62 mm size ammo can, the kind used to carry belts of ammo for the M60 machine gun. Not as big as a .50 cal can, but plenty big enough for this cache. It is Army green and has two of the official Geocache stickers on the outside. Contents when placed:

    1. 1 ziplock with several items for the kids.
    2. 1 ziplock with some of our signature items, the Battleship Texas & San Jacinto Battlefield gift shop doodads.
    3. Lone Star Traveler #1 (Travel Bug) - "The Rabbit for Alaska" We figured that since this is our first travel bug we'd shoot the moon. This rabbit wants to go to Alaska and report back what it's like. We're planning a summer trip up the Alaska Highway in two summers so he's going ahead to recon the route. Anyone that can get him on his way please feel free to give him a ride. (Pooh thanks you).
    4. Several computer games on CD's. Each in it's own ziplock bag.
    4. One official Geocaching Log Book (Please make your entry here). Two Pens.
    5. One official Geocaching information sheet.
We didn't include a camera in this one as it is 122 miles from the house as the crow flies ( er, that is, if the crow flies up 288 to Houston and beyond). It isn't that hard to find once you get out there, but getting there, that's the trick. (Especially now, LOL).

So, we forgot to take a picture of our traveler prior to placing the cache (rookie mistake!) so if anyone happens to wind up out there with a digital camera could you perhaps e-mail us a pic to add to this page, our thanks in advance.

There are some pictures along with a hint, and in the hint will will also put a link to a personal page with more pictures on it for your use if you should need them.

Above all, have fun, enjoy the beach, pick up some seashells (we did), and don't get stuck in the sand.
