Park @ N43° 00.664 / W090° 07.359. Proceed to the first station @
N43° 00.617 / W090° 06.856 via the Pine Cliff Trail.
In the container (a "semi-micro measuring 5" x 2" x 3/4") at the
first station, you'll find 3 sets of coordinates for 3 different
intermediate stations. You'll be provided a verbal hint and a
standard difficulty rating for each set of coordinates. The easier
they are to get to, the harder they are to find...the harder the
terrain and route finding, the easier they should be to find.
These intermediate caches are all micros (not necessarily film
cannisters though) which contain the coordinates for the final
"traditional" cache: an ammo box. The final cache's original
contents were: 3 pencils and a logbook, 4 fish lures, a 17 in one
multi-tool knife, a 7 piece exacto knife set, 2 key rings, a
Ventana Canyon ballmark repair tool (this is the companion piece to
the towel ring that Yawningdog nabbed from "Scarab"), a pencil
eraser, a Mario golfball, and a small handmade plaque commemorating
the campout for the first finder to take and keep as a trophy. (see
attached picture).
A few special notes: This park has cliffs and ridges all over
the place. None of the caches require climbing up or down cliff
faces (or even getting close to the edge). Your route might
indicate that you need to go down a cliff to reach a station...in
every case you can get to the cache safely from below. Each station
requires some off-trail work. I would not recommend trying this at
night. The total cache will require climbing and descending the
hills and ridges (on trails) a number of times, with a round trip
total of about 3 miles. If you've been frustrated by the difficulty
of "the Scarab" you won't want to try option # 3 which is the
easiest intermediated cache to get to but the most difficult to
find.
Extra credit: I will send a $5.00 gift certificate to the first
person to e-mail me accurate descriptions of all 3 intermediate
caches. Enjoy this awsome park!
