What is it about the carousel that attracts both young and old alike? Do you remember riding one as a child? The earliest known record of a carousel device is a Byzantine etching from 500 AD that portrays riders swinging in baskets tied to a center pole. This could make the carousel the “original” amusement park ride. It’s sad to think that this simple ride may be lost to the more modern thrill rides. To log this cache you need to:
1. Find a Carousel that has been in its current location for more than 2 years and get the GPS coordinates. (No traveling/temporary carnival rides.)
2. Find a little about its history and report.
3. No repeats and only one per cacher
4. Take a picture of someone on the ride holding the GPS-this is the MOST important step.
We’d love to see children on the carousel as an “introduction” to a new generation so-to-speak! Don’t let this important piece of history fade away. Get out there and ride the carousels!
