Geocache Description:

Cache is located on the hill of Penshaw monument.

Penshaw Monument was built in 1844 to commemorate John George Lambton, first Earl of Durham and the first Governor of Canada.

It was designed by John and Benjamin Green and modelled on the Theseum at Athens and is about half scale. The money to build the monument was raised by public subscription and construction was by Thomas Pratt of Sunderland.

There is a folk song and story associated with Penshaw hill, this being the Lambton Worm (pronounced Warm). If you want more information on the Worm check out this Lambton Worm

The cache is a 35mm black canister. with some mini trinkets.

Keep an eye open for the Kestrels on the hunt as a pair are resident in the wood to the North of the Monument. I spent 20 minuets watching one hunt. Brilliant.
