This cache is placed in the proposed Zane Grey Wilderness along the Rogue River to promote public visitation of the area. The Oregon Wilderness Coalition has identified special "roadless" areas (1000 acres or more) in Oregon and is working hard to obtain permanent protection for these special places. Visit ONRC.org for information on how you can help.
This cache is good for families and dogs, but beware of the poison oak which flourishes along the trail. Keep kids on the trail and away from the edge of the cliffs!!!. Temp in summer can reach triple digits so CARRY WATER. There is a nice beach near the end of your search so plan to stay awhile. Yes, it's a little challenging but WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THIS AREA. You will agree that it should have permanent protection.
Exit 76 from I-5 (Wolf Creek) and go a short distance and you will see the Wolf Creek Inn (Check it out, an old stage coach waypoint open for guests). Bear right at the Inn and go past the Community Center and under the RR trestle you see next to it, then bear left. You are now on Wolf Creek Road. Follow it, staying to right when necessary and after about 15 miles you will come to the Grave Creek Landing where Grave Creek enters the Rogue River. Park in the parking lot at
N 42° 39 041 / W 123° 35 170. This parking lot is a major launching point for rafts on the Rogue River so there may be some congestion there depending on time of day.
The trailhead is at the downstream side of the parking lot and will be obvious as it climbs up and runs along the cliffs overlooking the river.
