Geocache Description:

Just outside of Duffield,Virginia, on US Highway 23, at Natural Tunnel State Park

Parking coordinates are 36 42.14N 082 44.78W. This is the information center and the access to the chairlifts. Please enjoy the climb on the engine at the far end of parking lot. Many other activities can be found at the park as well. Swimming, camping, a huge picnic area and plenty of hiking trails are available. From the information center, you can take the trail down to the tunnel, or take the chairlifts (both are very enjoyable). There are plenty of places to stop and rest along the trail. Once at the bottom, it is a spectacular sight of a huge tunnel that was made naturally by the erosive effects of water. Over a hundred feet tall and 850 feet long, the tunnel is still frequented by a train that makes its daily haul through it. We were lucky enough to see it as it passed through at about 5:30pm today. Also at the bottom, are many other interests, such as the footbridge and the Carter Log Cabin. A must see for history enthusiasts. Several information posts are available to read, too. Also, there is an upper trail, for those who want to see a very nice overlook on the tunnel. A must see on all accounts! Happy hunting! The cache is a black bucket.
