The picnic will be in the Rockhill Park pavilion on July 14, 2002. Show up sometime between 11 AM and 3 PM and stay as long as you'd like. Pack a picnic lunch and join us in the park for what we hope will be the first of many Fort Wayne area geocaching events.
Important notes:
- This date falls on the first weekend of the Three Rivers Festival. That's by design, so those coming from out of town can find other stuff to do, or to send the rest of the family to do, while they're here. However, it also means you should avoid going through downtown if you're coming to this event; traffic on Clinton and Lafayette streets is likely to be heavy.
- Catalpa Street is currently closed between the park entrance and Jefferson Blvd for bridge repairs. To get to the park, you must approach from the south. If you are coming from Jefferson Blvd, turn south on Freeman, then east (left) on Taylor, then north (left) on Catalpa. The park entrance will be on the left.
- The pavilion is a covered structure and the parking is nearby, so we'll be there even if it's raining.
- We've rented the pavilion for the whole day, so don't feel like you have to plan to leave by 3. Plan to show up as early as possible, though, so we don't give up on you.
- Since this is the first event we've put together, there aren't likely to be much in the way of games and activities for geocachers. We'll let you know if that changes, though.
- Please log a note here if you intend to attend. If it looks like we're going to have a crowd, we need to let the Parks Department know. Also, having a large group might give us more incentive to actually plan this thing a little more.
We hope to see you there!
