Geocache Description:

This easy offset cache will take you to the top of Win Green Hill, Wiltshire's highest point, just north of the Dorset border. You can see across four counties from here: Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset. It's a great spot for picnics and kite flying, and there are usually some radio-controlled gliders to watch.

The copse of beech trees on the top of the hill is a famous local landmark, being semi-circular in profile from most directions, and can be seen for miles around.

Ashcombe House, Madonna's mansion, is ¾ mile from here to the south east. Bring your binoculars!

Free car parking is available near the top of the hill at N 50° 59.018 W 002° 06.631 (ST923205). The round trip from here is about a mile. Click here for a map.

The above coordinates are for a view finder where you need to collect some information to calculate the coordinates of the cache.

According to the view finder how many feet above sea level is Win Green? Answer = 9ab
How many miles is it to Swanage? Answer = cd
In what year was the view finder erected? Answer = 19ef

Using this information the cache is at N50° 59.caf W002° 06.bed

If you need refreshment after the walk we can recommend the cafe at the nearby Compton Abbas Airfield (ST891185) where you can watch the comings and goings of the many light aircraft.

The cache is a 50 cal ammo box and was last restocked on 25 November 2007. Don't feel obliged to take anything but please leave something of similar value if you do. All our trade items are new and cost around £1 each.
