Geocache Description:

Experimental time limited multi-cache. Requires a web enabled cell phone and jogging 1 mile.

Overview:

This is an experimental time limited multi-cache that requires a Web enabled cell phone. I believe it is the first of it's kind anyplace. Please read through the entire cache description beforehand. If you try to read the cache instructions while solving the cache - you may run out of time. Also - this cache requires you to jog (or at least very quickly walk) 1 mile.

Before trying this cache - verify that the Web access on your phone is working, and bookmark this URL on it - http://unsightly.com/cache . If you haven't already - I strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with your phones Web functions - specifically make sure you know how to access your bookmarks, follow links, enter data and scroll.

It would probably be a good idea to try connecting to http://unsightly.com/cache on your cell phone just before going after the cache to be sure everything is in working order.

There's obviously a number of things that could go wrong - causing you not to be able to solve the cache through no fault of your own (my server could crash, you might not get cell phone reception, bugs in my software, etc.) - that's why it has a high difficulty rating (the high terrain rating is due to the required jogging).

The cache container isn't very big - so bring something small to trade.

I'm interested in any feedback. Let me know if you have any problems solving the cache or get any error messages.

If you're interested in making a cache like this one - I'll be happy to hand over my code. Should be easy to implement if you have a basic understanding of ASP and WML/WAP.

There's a number of ways you could plausibly "cheat" at this cache - I'll probably close most of the loopholes in the next version of the software.

Waypoint 1:

Upon arriving at waypoint one - log on to http://unsightly.com/cache . Select the link to Waypoint 1. You will be asked a question about the location. If you answer correctly you will be issued a User ID and given the coordinates to the next waypoint.

The clock is now ticking! YOU NOW HAVE 15 MINUTES TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT WAYPOINT.

Quickly record your User ID and enter the coordinates into your GPS. Tip: an easy way to do this is just make your User ID the name for the waypoint.

You'll need to average approximately 4mph or better to make it in time. There's a little extra time allocated for entering the coordinates into your GPS, and logging in with your cell phone - but it's not much. Get moving!

Waypoint 2:

When you get here log on to http://unsightly.com/cache again. Select the link to Waypoint 2. Enter your User ID. Now, you will be asked a question about this location. Assuming you answer correctly, -AND- you managed to get here in time you will be given the coordinates to Waypoint 3 (the actual cache). You will also be told how long it took you to get here from the first Waypoint (please make a mental note of this and include it in your log).

Relax - the race is over - no time limit on making it to Waypoint 3.

Waypoint 3:

The cache is well hidden at the base of a rotten stump. It's on the side of the stump facing the lake. Watch out for the bunnies (if you like rabbits - head uphill into the main part of the park - I saw several dozen of them when scouting out a place to plant the cache).

Good luck / have fun!
