To get to Lily Lake from South Tahoe pick up CA 89 North. Head North on CA 89 for three miles. Turn left on Fallen Leaf Road. Follow this six miles along the eastern shore of Fallen Leaf Lake. Road ends at Glen Alpine trailhead. The cache is located 230 feet from the Desolation Wilderness Trailhead sign. It is placed in a crevice on the smooth black rocks with numerous straight cracks in them and is overlooking Lily Lake.
This is a beautiful area that I have enjoyed and it is where you catch the Glen Alpine Trail. Glen Alpine is one of the main entrances to the forest and a number of trails stem from it. To get to Gilmore Lake, just keep right at all intersections. Gilmore is about six miles from Fallen Leaf Lake. Any number of day trips is possible from here, from summiting Mount Tallac (with stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the Crystal Range) to heading deeper into the wilderness to Lake Aloha or scenic Dick's Pass. The cache container is the standard size ammo can and is hidden within the rocks.
Inside I have placed the following items:
- Warner Brothers Holiday Christmas picture magnet
- Microsoft Creative Writer and Fine Artist CD
- Chino Hills PD Key Chain
- Planner Notebook with calendar, solar calculator and ruler
I hope you enjoy yor visit!
