After parking at the mounting yard, make your way to the starting gate and, when the field is assembled and ready, you’re off! The going is smooth enough and, perhaps not surprisingly, quite flat after the initial climb to the course proper. However, after rain the track might be a bit heavy and slippery (and after heavy rain, parts of the complete Circuit Track may be impassable). Also, the Derby course is mostly single-file, sometimes with a drop close on one side, so keep a tight rein on any geo-apprentices. Just take it easily, keep close to the ‘rails’, enjoy the scenery and all will be well. There is one ‘hurdle’ on this part of the course, but you won’t need to take the jump, and then you're on the home strait. When you reach the finishing line close to the posted coordinates, you're as good as in the winner's circle. The prize can be reached with just a few steps above the level of the course, and it's still under the shelter of the winning post!
CAUTION. Just be careful that you have a safe, solid foothold as you retrieve it, as parts of the hillside are loose and slippery.
You shouldn’t have much trouble with passers-by but, if any do come along, you should have ample warning of their approach from either direction. The cache’s resting place can only be seen from a very short section of the course right at the winning post; even so, please take care to hide it carefully again before you leave.
See the encrypted text below for further details, or if you are not sure how to find the starting gate.
