The 12 Step Program Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

skydiver: I've got good news and bad news.
Bad News: After long and careful thought, I've decided to archive the TSP. Keeping all the individual stages maintained and operational has become too much work.
Good News: Several of my favorite stages will soon be reincarnated as stand alone caches. Those people who completed the TSP will be able to log the individuals again, as long as they return to the cache site and sign the new log book.

Geocache Description:

Is geocaching the focal point of your entire existence?
Are your vacations planned completely around what geocaches you want to hunt?
Does it amaze you that people actually buy and use GPSrs for something OTHER than geocaching?
Do you find yourself frequently explaining to local law enforcement what geocaching is all about?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you may be afflicted with a little known, but highly contagious, condition known as Geocaching Addiction Syndrome (GAS). People who have GAS often talk about these and other strange symptoms.

If you think you have GAS, or are showing symptoms of it's early stages, then you should strongly consider enrolling in the 12 Step Program. The 12 Step Program was designed specifically for people with GAS. It was created to help people understand their addiction, see first hand what it does to their lives, and effectively deal with it.

Fine Print: The 12 Step Program is not, and does not claim to be, a cure for GAS. Instead, it should be thought of as a certification program for geocaching addicts, so that at the next local geocachers club meeting, they can proudly say, "Hi, My name is __________, I have GAS, and I've completed the 12 Step Program."

If you haven't figured it out by now, the 12 Step Program (TSP) is a 12 stage multicache. Over three weeks in the making, this is not a cache hunt you'll complete over a lunch break, or after work one day, or even over a long weekend. TSP is designed to be both challenging, and entertaining, and to exercise both your body, AND your mind.

Note: Several stages of this cache are located in areas that will be inaccessible in the winter. So, if you are attempting this one in the fall or winter, be prepared to wait until spring to finish. Other stages of this cache are located in areas that are likely to have a lot of people mulling around. Don't go for the cache if you can't do it without being noticed, and be prepared to wait for your opportunity, or come back at a different time of day.

Do not submit a "Found it" log here until you have completed ALL 12 stages. You may however, submit Notes to this page as you complete individual stages on the condition that you are very careful not to give away any information that someone after you could use as a hint. Be vague, and when in doubt, leave it out. This goes for "Found it" logs as well.

Prerequisites: Before attempting TSP, it is strongly recommend that first you find "No Compromise #1" by Rye and Leigh, and "C.C. Cache" by skydiver, or any other local caches of similar style and difficulty. These caches will help prepare you for what you're about to get yourself into.

Suggested Supplies: Bug Spray, Bear Spray, Drinking water, Camera, Forest Service Maps, Topo Maps, City Map, Mountain Bike, Hiking Boots, GPSr.

Required Supplies: Paper and functional writing utensil.

At each stage of TSP you'll find a micro cache with a five character code inside. Write this code down on the paper you brought with you. To get the clues and coordinates for the next stage in the program, you'll need to enter your geocaching.com username and the five character code for the cache you just found in the form (follow the link below).
Click here to go to the code entry and recent activity page.

Please, do not take anything from any of the caches, or leave anything in any of the caches. Your contribution to this cache hunt will be blood, sweat, and tears, and in exchange, TSP will provide you with certified bragging rights.

So, if you think you're ready, follow the link above to the form, and use 'START' for your 12 Step Code. This will open a window with the coordinates and clues to Step #1. Good Luck!

Note to tourists: Quote from Cache Guidelines
"Placing caches on vacation is unacceptable and these caches will not be approved on the web site. As the cache owner you are obligated to be in a position to manage your caches, and caches placed on vacation require someone else to maintain them for you. Please be responsible."

You are invited to come enjoy the many quality caches that local cachers have placed for you.
But please help keep Montana green, and leave the hiding to us.
