Ved "Tordenskjoldseika"
By "Tordenskjolds Oak"

Ved ”Kjølhalskogen” i Horten står denne gamle mesteren.
I tidligere tider foretok man kjølhaling av båter her.

Historien forteller at Tordenskjold likte Hortens Indre havn godt.

Tordenskjold hadde gitt svenskene deres aller største
nederlag under ”Den Store Nordiske Krig”.

"Linden" i Tivoliveien

You will find this old master at ”Kjølhalskogen” in Horten.
In old times ships were careened here.

According to tradition “Tordenskjold” thought very well of
the inner harbour at Horten.
Tordenskjold – or Peter Johan Wessel – was one of
Denmark-Norways greatest heroes at sea,
only exceeded by Niels Juel.
He was born in Trondheim in 1690,
and despite his young age he became vice-admiral and
supreme commander for the Danish-Norwegian fleet.

Among the Swedes he was known as “The Fear of Kattegat”.
Any Swedish fleet that tried to take on him was suppressed.
On June 8. 1716 Tordenskjold neutralized he Swedish supply-fleet
at Dynekilen, destroying the whole fleet, 25 ships in all.
The Swedes suffered their largest defeat during the “Great Nordic War”.
This battle was followed by the conquest of Marstrand in 1719,
earning him the vice-admiral rank.

“Tordenskjolds Oak” is one of Hortens protected trees.

The cache is a clear plastic canister with white lid,
hidden "muggle-safe" a little off the public area.
