Geocache Description:

The Georgia Geocachers Association August, 2002, meeting will be held on Saturday, August 10, from 3:00 PM till 5:00 PM.

Last summer, we had one meeting that broke all attendance records for the Georgia Geocachers Association. The main draw for this meeting was the famous "Snake Lady" from the Georgia Herpetological Society and her "friends", various common Georgia snakes. In addition to being interesting, the presentation helped us to understand some of the snakes that we might encounter during our geocaching adventures.

Update:  OK, now it is time for the rash promises! We have confirmed that a representative of the Georgia Herpetological Society will present the "snake show" at the August meeting. We are all looking forward to this presentation!

We will also have a discussion about the GGA Challenge Event that took place July 27. We would like to get some thoughts and ideas while the challenge is still fresh in everyone's mind. You can also hear about what went on and ask questions if you were not able to attend.

The proposed agenda follows:

  1. Discussion of “cache helpers" as suggested by spark77
  2. Advance planning for a spring 2003 challenge event
  3. Georgia State Parks update
  4. Snakes presentation at 3:45 p.m.
  5. It has been suggested that we change from monthly meetings to quarterly meetings. Comments?
  6. There is an issue or perception that we are not truly a Georgia Geocachers Association because we are so Atlanta-centric. Over the months, there have been suggestions that the GGA should hold meetings in areas of the state away from Metro Atlanta. However, the reality is that almost all of the current GGA members live around the north perimeter of Atlanta, and we feel that we best serve our current members by finding interesting meeting locations near them. The steering committee has offered to advocate meetings in other areas of the state, but there has been little or no interest expressed at this point. Is it the view of the members present that we should continue to schedule meetings and events around the Atlanta metro area, or should we rotate the meeting sites throughout the four corners of the state?
  7. Should we consider formalizing the GGA structure with by-laws (and/or a constitution as there is no charter), including election procedures for the steering committee, a club president, treasurer, etc.?
  8. Dues – should we start collecting dues, or continue with passing the hat when money is needed to cover meeting site costs, etc?
