Geocache Description:

Overall difficulty - 1 - Short drive out of town with casual hiking. No 4WD or high-suspension vehicles required.

Good desert hike, going gradually uphill to get to the stash. Hiking boots are suggested, but not required. Don't forget to bring plenty of water, most especially in the hot months.

Happy New Years! I decided to place this one closer to Las Vegas to make it more accessible to those that don't want to venture too far out of town. This one is hidden out past Red Rock Canyon - just follow Charleston Boulevard West out of town...

While out looking for this cache, be sure to also enjoy the Red Rock Canyon scenic loop drive (and hikes) if you have time, as well as the Oak Creek and First Creek hiking trails in the nearby area. Further along the road, Bonnie Springs restaurant is a great place to stop in and grab a "Bonnie Burger", if you're hungry from a day of desert adventuring.

Keep an eye out for good places to pull off and park along side the road. Most of these spots have openings in the fence that lead to westerly "trails". After parking along the road, the hike to the stash will probably take from at least 1/2 an hour to maybe an hour or so. The distance from the road to the stash is ~1.5 miles walking distance. The stash is hidden under a cairn -- a pile of rocks -- as not to overly draw attention or make the stash disrupt the local scenery. Be sure to reseal the container and cover it completely with rocks. Feel free to pile more rocks on to keep the container out of view and safe -- just don't crush it.

I thought that this would be the only Las Vegas-based New Years geocache, so I was delightfully surprised to see that Scott Seegmiller hid one in the Vegas area as well!

Happy Adventuring!
