This is the first in a series of Mt. Bachelor cache's to highlight some of the unkown spots on our fav ski hill. The hike is off trail, about 100' elevation gain from the Sunrise Lodge.
~The Legendary Snafflehound Cavern~
This hunt will take you to a secret spot on the east side of Mt. Bachelor. You can reach the said coordinates by driving to the Sunrise Lodge parking lot, and hiking up towards the top of the Carosuel chair. If the gates are closed, your walk will be a bit longer, but still pretty darn easy.
The cache can be reached via hiking in the woods, or you can walk up the service road, and the cache is only about 150 yards from this road, its up to you!
The snafflehound is a crazy little creature that is seen througout the wilderness. The contents of the cache will help you out with your own hunt for a wild snafflehound!
The cache is a clear tupperware container with the following inside.
- 2 squirt guns (you provide the ammo)
- Glo Sticks (when activated this will daze the snaffle)
- Lone Ranger mask (duh!)
- Ice Pack (to apply to any snaffle bites)
- Glow in the dark silly putty
- A shark to scare snaffles from hiding
- Some mints to give your new pet some fresh breath
- And the Dumbo travel bug is now holed up in the snafflehound cavern. I guess we'll find out if elephants like to ski or ride!
*other notes*
This interesting lava tube is used by snow riders in the winter as an aparent party area, and it would be great if all the visit could pick up some trash. I'm guessing you could make about $5 from can returns from this cache alone.
Also, there is snow inside the cavern/tube right now which makes it nice and cool, unfortunately, the skeeters have realized this as well!
Do not attempt to drive up the Mt. Bachelor service road, you will get in trouble!
