Gillis Falls Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Siegfried: Read the last few logs if you need to know the story on this. I'm just finally 'closing it out', meant to do it a long time ago, but was reminded recently that I hadn't.

Geocache Description:

Pretty walk through the woods to find it, but you might spend a little while looking.

-=-=-=- WARNING -=-=-=-

READ FIRST: Currently this cache is 'somewhat' inaccessible, and due to this I have changed the difficultly level to 5 stars. After getting three reported "can't find" reports, I got worried. I also looked at the pictures recently taken by a cacher, and thought I saw the problem. We just visited the cache, and the problem was confirmed. The area where the cache was hidden has been completely covered by a stick&mud slide.

We are assuming that the cache still exists there, under about a yard of sticks and mud, and therefore are choosing to NOT remove/disable/etc the cache. Instead we are doing two things. First, is that we have set another cache in this same area, to not have this wonderful place be cacheless. You can see this cache info here: GCGB62. Please seek this cache out, and enjoy it.

Secondly, we are challenging any/all geocachers to liberate this 'buried alive' cache, and gain the ULTIMATE cache find. I would say that a shovel, pickaxe, and perhaps more will be necissary to find this cache right now, assuming it still exists.

If you manage to find the cache, we will give you 3 choices of what you wish to do with it. Please choose, and let us know which you chose to do:

  1. Keep the cache box for yourself as the ultimate momento, and since we have placed another cache in the area already, we will close this cache down, and you will go down in history as the last to find this 'old' cache.
  2. Rehide the cache, in/around the same area, but not back in the mud. Take new coordinates of it, take a few pictures of where you hid it, and let us know all this. I will then update the coordinates/description/hints/etc for this cache.
  3. Take the cache away, and use the cache box and it's contents to start a new cache elsewhere. We will close down this cache, with a final posting giving it's new URL and location!

Good Luck!

-=-=-=- END OF WARNING -=-=-=

This cache is just a hop/skip/jump from where we live, and could be considered to be in Woodbine, or in Mt. Airy ... Depending on which you choose to call it. It is accessible via the Gillis Falls Trail System. Park at the Woodbrook Parking area (Just off of Grimville Road, in turn just off of Flag Marsh road) coords for the parking area are: 39.22.856N 77.05.400W

Park in one of the couple O spots, and walk past the gate to begin your journey.

This area is open sunup to sunset, 7 days a week from Feb16th - Aug31st ... For the rest of the year it is only open Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday (Other days are for hunting). It is also completely closed from the Saturday after thanksgiving for 2 weeks (deer season).

NOTE: Please replace the cache EXACTLY as you found it, and as the directions in the logbook say to place it. It has become obvious that some people haven't been quite placing it in the same place after finding it. Thank you.
