Geocache Description:

Not for the average cacher/hiker. This could almost be a 5. But the views are amazing.

07/01/03 I am temporairly disablign this cache until it can be confirm by one of our team. I'll get it back online as soon as possible.

08/12/03 - Cache has been re-established. MUCH THANKS to 1Thunderbird for his assistance. 1Thunderbird reports the container is a .30cal ammo can painted grey and green. It is reseeded with 10 geo items. He also reports the trip is 2 hours each way.

This cache involves a hike of between 10 and 12 miles and can take at least 6 hours. It is not for the average hike but look at the picture to see the team that hid it, one of them is 10 years old.

Advisable to take someone with you, take LOTS of water and some food.

Elevation change is from 400 feet to 2100 feet.

If you park in Elizabeth Furance on Route 678, the easiest way up is the orange trail (counterclockwise)then back down the way you came. After reaching the cache if you continue on the orange trail to the blue trail you will have a STEEP ascent up the blue trail. Alternatively you can come back down the orange to the white trail then the blue trail.

This cache can also be reached by parking on Route 55 just east of where it crosses the river. I understand this to be an quick route but I think it might be steeper. I havent' tried this route myself. The coordinates for the "Red Trail" trailhead to Signal Knob off of Rt. 55 are N38 58.480, W78 19.851

Look for an old farm gate blocking an overgrown access road. Follow the access road until you reach an old block building, and then behind the building there's a path that will take you to the top.

Be conscience of the heat - this is better done in the spring or fall.

The bonus is that if you go via the longer Elizabeth Furance route you can pick up the Rocky Road (not the ice cream type) cache on the way up
