A cache located in the north of Norway in a small community called Neiden close to the Finnish and Russian border.
The cache is a normal sized Tupperware box. A small finders fee is in the box for the first finder. The cache is located Approx 150 meters from this magnificent viewpoint, N69 41.482 E029 22.154 A tips is to locate the viewpoint first and then go for the cache.
Neiden is a small community close to both the Russian and Finnish border. It is located in North of Norway and is a place filled with beautiful nature and a strong history. Neiden was nomannsland until the year 1826. In 1826 the russians and norwegians drew new borderlines and the people In Neiden could choose between Russia and Norway. The people choosed Norway and Neiden was declared Norwegian territory. St.Georgs Chapel in Neiden was built in the 16th century and is a greek orthodox chapel that is connected to the church in Boris Gleb. The church in Boris Gleb was Norwegian territory but it was given to russia in the borderline project in 1826.
Neiden was burned down and the bridge was blown away by Germans during the second world war and the hill where the cache is located is covered with old German trenches. Take a walk along the hill side and picture yourself back to the second world war. It is almost spooky up there.
If you don't like to climb up the hill it is possible to drive the car to the top of the hill if you make a turn at this location N69 41.659 E029 20.572 but the road is very weather dependent. In dry wether you can drive almost to the cache. In bad wether you need a 4 wheeler. I recomedn to park the car at the bridge.
If you like fishing Neiden is one of Norways finest Salmon rivers. Bring fishing gear if you like fishing. But do not forget to buy a fishing card and to follow the rules for the river.
