Geocache Description:

Gargoyle, n. grotesque spout, usually in form of human or animal mouth, head or body, projecting from gutter of (esp. Gothic) building to carry water clear of wall. [Fr. Gargouille – L. gurgulio, throat]

Have you seen any of these fascinating but functional architectural adornments on a building near you? For our twenty second cache, maccamob invites you to go on a gargoyle hunt. To log this cache, find a building of some historical significance using gargoyles to carry water off its roof and away from walls.

Please note. Internal grotesque carvings, or external ones without a roof-water dispersal function, do not qualify. Similarly, fountains and similar constructions not associated with the roof of a building do not qualify. Logs for such ineligible objects will be deleted.

Post pictures of the building highlighting its gargoyles, with your GPS in at least one of them. Give the coordinates of the building and some information to explain why it, or its gargoyles, are historically significant.

Each building can only be logged once, and only one log per geocacher or team. No old holiday snaps or internet downloads please.

The coordinates here are for St Andrew's Presbyterian Church at Skipton, a small town on the Glenelg Highway about 45km west of Ballarat in Central Victoria, Australia. The church was built in 1871 and is noted for its kangaroo gargoyles; it has been classified by Heritage Victoria.
