Whilst the walk to this cache is mostly via dirt tracks and is relatively straight forward, the terrain is very steep and may be difficult for people who are very unfit, elderly or have physical disabilities. Take sensible shoes!

This description assumes you have parked your car at "the top" at S27 Deg 28.294', E152 Deg 56.504' (5m accuracy). You'll know if you've got the right car park, because nine people work across the road. It is also possible to approach this cache from "the bottom", but that would be a rather significant hike.

Assuming you have taken the correct path (some people take the wrong one - watch your GPSs closely!!) and you arrive near the location, you will discover a nice view of the land below and a steep gully that forces the path to curve down to the left. A tall, lone tree stands in the middle of the path on this corner, with a cavity in it's base - this is not to be confused with an identically situated tree found 20m earlier on the path. From this 2nd tree, turn 90 Deg to your right (up hill). There stands a tall red man who likes to sit by the edges of gullies. Walk up to him. The Cache is hidden at his feet on his upper side - look for the "C" mark and the small pile of rocks. You may need a small digging tool to help shift the layer of dirt covering it.

Be sure to fill out the Log Book and use the camera - BUT DO NOT TAKE THE CAMERA - LEAVE IT FOR OTHERS TO USE. If something has been left there with instructions - please read them! Cache position was averaged for 10 mins with an external aerial, achieving an accuracy of 5.7m due to some tree cover. Always replace and recover the cache as you found it! If you take something, place another item in the cache.

Be cautious when searching for the Cache - the area is very steep and the location is not very far from the car park as the crow flies. However, crows are dumb and don't always know the best path - stay as close to the path as you can!

April 2007 Update: We have received word that the trailhead path has been closed due to errosion (we told you it was steep!). A cross country trip may be required if you approach from the car park (and not the near-by Cache In The Middle). We have also been told of a new trailhead located at 100m to the SE of the car park. We will confirm when able.

Cache Logs

Hello! I am Rana Pirica, the geocache maintenance frog for Groundspeak.

I am assisting your local reviewer in keeping a watch on geocaches that may need some attention. This geocache came up for review as it has been temporarily disabled for more than 4 weeks, beyond the "few weeks" in the guidelines.

What is the status of your geocache? Are you planning on repairing or replacing it? These are the guidelines about geocache maintenance: (visit link)
Performing geocache maintenance is an important part of your geocache ownership and it is your responsibility to maintain the cache both physically and here on your listing.

If it is to be repaired or replaced, please post your maintenance plan in a note on your listing. Once you have performed maintenance on this cache, please post an "Owner Maintenance" log and re-enable the cache so that everyone will know that the cache is again ready to be found. If you do not plan on repairing or replacing, please archive this listing.

If I do not see a note posted on the page within 4 weeks this cache will be archived. To avoid future visits from the friendly frog, make sure to always use the "owner maintenance" log in addition to the "re-enable cache" log.

Sincerely,

Rana Pirica

Just Curious.....

How can you log a find when you didn't find the cache?

The rules are clear: If your name is not in the logbook, it is not a find!

:-(

Thanks for the info on the cache's removal. We have now confirmed with the BCC that they did in fact remove this, one of Queensland's oldest caches, because it was "not on the path".

Well, I found the spot where the cache should be, but NO CACHE!! Just the Geocache info sheet from the cache, with an attached note saying the cache had been removed in April by the Brisbane City Council because no permission had been sought or granted for placing the cache. A worrying development indeed.
