Inspired by "Team Magster" and his pictures from the “Vernon
Cache”, we placed this cache near the "Pochuck Bypass" along the
Appalachian Trail, in Vernon, NJ.
We came here after camping at Camp Mogisca this weekend. You can
pick up the Appalachian Trail from a couple of places in this area.
On the shoulder of Rt 517 at N41°14.108 – W74 28°.845 or the end of
Canal Rd at N41° 13.596 – W74° 28.107 . From the cache site it is
about .57 miles to Rt 517 and about .38 miles from Canal Rd. (as
the bees fly). I think the better approach is from Rt 517 where you
will have a scenic, 1 mile, hike along the boardwalk right to the
cache site. The cache is an ammo container and is loaded with
goodies and hidden amongst rocks, just 50’ (or less) off the trail.
The cheater is pretty much a dead givaway.
