Geocache Description:

Note: This is a locationless geocache. Instead of finding a box, you are challenged to find an historical site marking a significant person or event in the Women's Rights Movement in the United States.

The woman highlighted as a model for this cache theme is Matilda Joslyn Gage, 1826-1898, who lived in Fayetteville, New York from 1854 until her death in 1898.

"When she died at the age of 72, the United States was still over 20 years away from granting women the right to vote. Matilda Joslyn Gage left a long list of achievements. Central to all of her causes was a quest for knowledge, justice and liberty. On the marker on her grave in the Fayetteville cemetery are inscribed the words below."

"There is a word sweeter than mother, home or heaven. That word is liberty."

Here are the rules to log this locationless geocache:

1. Use your GPS receiver to mark the location of an historical site related to a significant person or event in the Women's Movement in the United States. You must be able to show that your location has been officially designated as such. This may be confirmed with a photo of a sign, or with a link to a website. By historical, we mean prior to World War II. The intention here is to celebrate U.S. history, rather than discuss politics, so think like an historian. The waypoint used must be for a specific location, such as an historical marker. A visitor should be able to find the subject of your photo with a GPS.

2. Take a photo of the site that shows you and your GPS receiver at the spot where you mark the waypoint for your log report. One or two additional photos showing the surroundings will greatly enhance your report. The photos linked below will serve as examples.

3. Submit a log report that includes the coordinates of the sign or a main entrance, and some descriptive information. Be sure to tell us the address, city, and state. Try to find at least one website with information about your person or the historical location, and include the link in your log report.

4. Then immediately upload the required confirmation photo in order to log this cache as found. The usual locationless cache rules apply: one log per geocacher, and each location may be logged only once. Please read all the logs to be sure your historical location has not already been logged. All photos must be originals, and logs without GPS photos will be deleted.
