The White Lady of the Buckhorn

Back in the Horse and Buggy days, a young couple proclaimed their love for each other to their parents. When the Bride-To-Be's Father realized that he could not stop the romance, he sabotaged his own carriage's rear axle, to keep his daughter from driving the carriage to see her lover. Unfortunately it was the same day that the couple was to run away and elope. In the foggy mist, dressed in her wedding gown, the Bride stole her Father's carriage to pick up the Groom. On the short trip down the mountain road, the axle broke and the bride fell to her death. Today, when the fog rolls in, she still searches the mountain, in her wedding gown, looking for her groom.

So, keep your eyes and ears open when searching for this cache because you may not be alone.

The Cache container is as big as a pretzel container. It is full of lots of spooky stuff like bugs, bats, mummies and some things that are just gross.

Start from the parking at the Wopsy Lookout (N 40° 34.039 W 78° 26.416). From there you can follow your GPSr to the cache. There are some trails that follow the ridge of the lookout but it is a fairly easy walk even without the trails.

Remember to bring your camera since there is a nice view of Altoona and Brush Mountain from the Wopsy Lookout.

After hiding this one I returned to my car and talked with a man who was there admiring the view. He said he met my wife and she was wondering where I was. I told him I came here alone and I didn't know who he may have met here. I didn't ask what she was wearing because if he had told me she was wearing a white dress I would have just freaked, and never came back here.

Good Luck

Quick find on this brisk Autumn day with Em and Mal the geodog. Very disappointed in the HUGE collection of refuse and trash from dumping and the rude graffiti in the area. We TNLNSL TFTC.

Definitely was a little creeped out going back there to get the cache. Although, if I would have seen the white lady, I would have ran the fastest I have ever ran! Nice cache though! TNLN

This was one of many caches done while caching in the area. I love these older caches. They bring out the true fashion of what geocaching is all about. Very nice area to hike with a wonderful view of the city. TNLNSL
