Geocache Description:

This cache has been authorized by the Park Manager at Sweetwater Creek State Conservation Park. No caches can be placed in GA State Parks without prior authorization. Thanks to our GA State Parks!

This is a multi-cache in a great historic park on the West side of Atlanta. The coordinates above are for the final cache location. I am afraid to change the icon now in case someone uses this for challenges. Sorry that it shows as a traditional geocache. The cache is located INSIDE the visitor center. You must sign the log book during the normal office hours between 9 AM and 5 PM seven days a week. You cannot go right to the cache, because it has a combination lock on it. You must first visit the three locations below to get the clues that will give you the combination to the lock on the cache. You will find clues posted here and there with some places to rest along the way. You will walk about 2.5 miles on mostly level ground. There are some hills, but only as you leave the parking lot going to the creek and around the mill ruins. DO NOT leave the trails at any time. All clues are located on the trails. Here are the locations where you will find the combination lock clues:
First Clue:

N  33° 45.328'
W 84° 37.352'

At this location you come to the big, new, TALLER bridge over the river. Parts of the old bridge that Hurricane Dennis tossed into the river can still be seen sticking out of the water near the far bank. The new bridge has a plaque from "Contech", the bridge maker. The last two digits of the year this new bridge was manufactured is = __ __ , which is also the first two digits of the lock combination.

Second Clue:

N  33° 45.042'
W 84° 37.462'

It looks like Hurricane Dennis flood waters have removed the sign for question 2. As you get close to the coordinates, you will notice the start of the mill race. There was a bridge, but it has washed down the river. As you look over to the island you will see a new sign right next to the main trail describing the millrace. The last number in the length of the mill race is the third number in the combination. Please do not enter the millrace at any time.

Third Clue:

N  33° 44.729'
W 84° 37.399'

This is the last location. You will have just gone past the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company. At the visitor center you will see a model of what the mill looked like when it was in operation. The old wheel was located on the side of the building where the "mill race" or water trough turns and goes into the mill. Compare this site to the model at the visitor center when you go to the final cache. At these coordinates, you will see two separate handrails made from steel poles and cable. The first one you will pass consist of four poles in the ground. The second one at the coordinates has __ poles, where the number in the blank is the LAST number of the combination.

Cache Location:

N  33° 45.186'
W 84° 37.757'

This is the visitor center where the cache is located. You now have the four numbers to open the combination lock to the cache. You have to get to the visitor center before it closes to log this cache. You must sign the logbook.

Have fun with this cache. I really enjoy this area and the history that is around. You can fish in the creek and the lake with a State of Georgia Fishing License.

J.C. loves this park! You are allowed to have dogs in this area, but you are required to have them leashed at all times. There have been dog attacks in this park, and you will get a ticket if your dog is off-leash (and a tongue lashing from me if I see you!).
