Geocache Description:

THIS WAS AN EVENT CACHE. THE CACHE WAS ARCHIVED A FEW DAYS AFTER THE EVENT ENDED. IF INVITED TO RETURN, WE WILL PLACE A NEW CACHE FOR THE NEW EVENT.

This Event was the Texas Parks and Wildlife - Franklin Mountain State Park Outdoor Expo 2002. The event was held 19 and 20 October, 2002, from 1000 (10 AM) to 1700 (5 PM) both days. There was much to see and do. The park entrance fee was waved for this event. (Normally $3 per visitor over 12 years old). This event was in the Tom Mays Park area. Tom Mays Park is just north of Trans Mountain Road, on the west side of the Franklin Mountains, appx 3.8 miles east of I-10. Mike (KD9KC) ran the Geocaching exhibit, with help from others. (Thanks for the help everyone.) Ideas to make it better are welcome!

We had 9 groups of Geocachers find the cache and sign the log, and over 100 others expressed an interest in learning more. Several left the park headed for the TARGET store to buy a GPS. The KIDDIE CACHE was a big hit, with 30 or more kids using an E-TREX to find the cache, and taking one toy as a prize.

The park logged almost 600 visitors in the two day event, and it was considered a big success. We have already been asked if we will be able to do it again, date to be determined. For more information contact Texas Parks and Wildlife El Paso Headquarters at (915) 566-6441. Or visit the web page: (visit link)
