My son(Cub) is down visiting from Denver and we wanted to introduce him to geocaching. So, we decided to first stash a cache, then maybe find one or two before he leaves. We picked the Erwin Park area, as it did not have any caches yet and Green Thumb said it was a nice area, which it really is. Great for mountian bikers and hiking a winding trail. Make sure you take plenty of your favorite drinks(no acoholic beverages allowed, zero tolerance), we recomend water, for this summer heat. For a list of Park amenities and good info on the Park, see the DORBA Erwin Park Trail site. If you decide to do some off-road bicycling, either to find the catch or just to ride, be sure to read and follow the rules you will find on the DORBA page for the Park. For your motor vehicle, use only the paved roads and paved parking lots for driving or parking. Do not drive/park on anything but paved areas for any reason.
Walking distance really depends on where you start on the trail. Approximate shortest trail distance, if you use the closest parking area to the cache, is about 300 yards. The trail loops around so that there is actually three places that are about the same distance, give or take a few feet, from the cache location. Pay close attention to your GPS to know when you are at one of these spots. :)
If you really need driving instructions to get to the Park, check out our site for a link to our geocaching page. There you will find a link to this cache's page with some pictures of the Park area, a resident, a possible residence, habitat, the trail and the driving directions to get to the Park.
In the container you will find the usual geocaching info sheet, a log, and the goodies!! We started the catch with: pig nose(you have to find the catch to see what this is), wooden football game, 2 mini NFL collector cups(a Chargers & a Patriots), etched key chain, packet of blanket flower seeds, 5 packs Mars Crystalline Entity, and for those of us that lost ours, three packages of marbles. Enjoy!!
