Geocache Description:

Gigantus croceus altilis once thrived along the ancient California coast. However changing climatic conditions brought and end to this once great species which can now only be studied through the fossil record.

In an earlier epoch the coastline of what is now California was substantially inland. Fossil evidence supporting this is readily found on many mountain slopes within what is now the coastal mountain range. The most advanced life form during this epoch, as recorded in the ancient record, was a large winged mammal with an intellect equal to that of the advanced communicative canis species, i.e. Wonder Dog, Scooby Doo, Wiley Coyote, etc. Research has determined that these avian mammals, of the genus / species gigantus croceus altilis, were in addition linguistically linked to the fabled human forms found in the lost city of Atlantis. In fact while g. croceus altilis nested and reared their young along the ancient California coast fossil records indicate that they annually migrated to Atlantis, The Lost City. Prior to migration g. croceus altilis would cache their belongings in 2 gallon white plastic buckets and place them in secure pods. Scholars consider locating a complete pod and intact cache a highly prized find and of the thousands placed by g. croceus altilis all but one has been pillaged and destroyed. Unfortunately the only record of the last known pod are the coordinates listed above. These were deciphered from a stone tablet found off the coast of Greece in October 2002. Even with these coordinates the keys to gain access to the cache are reported to be still a mystery. Can the Geocaching community lend its assistance in this quest? Or will another archeological find end up in ruins?
