Geocache Description:

A 1.5 mile rather steep well-established trail brings you to a fire tower SW of Twisp.

Getting to the Trailhead:
From Hwy 20 in Twisp turn west on Second Ave toward the Twisp River Recreational Area, then fork off to the right at the first left turn. Follow this road, Lookout Mtn Road which eventually turns into FS 200, for about 6 miles to the end of the road and a parking area at 48º19.416N; 120º11.089W (4407'). The road is rough but good enough that a high clearance vehicle is unnecessary.

Please note that this TH is accessible only from Spring through late Fall at which time a gate is locked at 48º18.925N; 120º09.849W (3,628')

The Cache: No need to use your gps until you've arrived at the top, just follow the 1 1/2 mile established trail. Once on top, be on the lookout for a small silver cannister with a screw on lid. No pen, so bring your own writing implement.
The Lookout Mountain Lookout: With the highest number of first fire reports in the Methow Valley, Lookout Mountain Lookout was placed on standby status by the Okanogan National Forest in 1998. Established as a camp in 1916, a log cupola was built in 1931. The present classic 14'x14' L-4 with catwalk on a 25' timber tower was constructed in 1937. Today the lookout is ready to be pressed into service if necessary.
