Shortwave Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

warm fuzzies: It was a good cache to the end. Too bad the cards all disappeared. If you happen to find one, please take it out of circulation as the cache is no more.

There's no particular reason why the cache is no more, though, other than the fact that we just don't really geocache anymore, so I'd strongly encourage someone else to consider placing a cache in this park. That tree is just too cool not to.

For those who never found it, the coordinates were in the neighborhood of N41 03.908, W85 11.857. This is in the middle of a little-known park in southwest Fort Wayne. If you're not in it for the numbers, take an hour and go see the tree. It's awe-inspiring. While you're in the area, check out Fort Wayne's only Frank Lloyd Wright house at N41 04.226, W85 11.467.

Geocache Description:

This is a perfectly normal cache except that the coordinates listed are not the real coordinates of the cache; see below for details.

Disabled access not available500 ft. to 1 mile from car to cacheNo drinking water availableNo restrooms availableOff-trail hiking permitted (or required)Long pants are strongly suggested

This cache is hidden somewhere near the indicated coordinates, but if you try to go where the coordinates above point you, you'll be all wet. To get the real coordinates, all you have to do is find one of the "Shortwave" cards in a local cache, then figure out the coordinates from what you see on that card. It couldn't be simpler.

Once you've finished with the coordinate card, please return it to another local cache so someone else has a chance to find it, too.

There are five Shortwave cards scattered throughout the city. They're all the same, so if you have one you have all of the information you need. If you find one, please feel free to log a note here telling us where you found it and whether you're holding on to it while you figure out the coordinates.

A quick note about parking: there is no parking at the site, so you'll have to make do somehow. When we hid it, we parked in a wide spot in the road on the north side of the street that borders the south edge of the site. There's a power-line right-of-way there and it seems to be a safe place to park. You might need to walk west a while before you leave the road to avoid being on private property.

Good luck, and happy hunting!
