Elves Been Workin' on the Trail Road Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Leprechauns: I'm archiving this cache to make way for the Elves' Montour Trail Challenge Cache Trail. It had a good run, but long multi-caches have fallen out of favor. All stages were retrieved when the new challenge caches were hidden.

Geocache Description:

A linear multicache along the Montour Run Rails-to-Trails biking and hiking path - and the FIRST cache placement on this now cache-rich trail. For maps and information about the Montour Trail, and a link to other segments that form a great network in Southwestern Pennsylvania, visit The Montour Trail Website.

Did you ever want to explore a railroad tunnel, LEGALLY? Do you enjoy bike riding? If so, this is the cache for you. The Leprechauns got into mountain biking right before we discovered geocaching, and this cache allows everyone to enjoy both at once. Since the trail follows an abandoned railroad bed, all elevation changes are very gradual, making the ride very kid-friendly. Little Leprechaun pedaled the entire round trip when we planned out this cache. The terrain rating assigned above is because of the distance involved and the approach to the final cache location.

This multicache consists of three microcaches (2 are 35 mm film cans and the other a round altoids tin), leading to a final traditional cache in an ammo box, where you can log your find and trade goodies. Each micro contains a portion of the coordinates for the final cache. You can find the micros in any order, meaning you can park at any place shown on the trail map between McLaren Road and the Robinson Town Center/Beaver Grade Road area. All of the cache locations are near these parking spots, making for an enjoyable round trip. You can also find all of the caches by strategically parking your car at nearby access points if you don't have a bicycle.

The coordinates given above are for the parking lot that is easily reached by taking the McLaren Road exit off the Airport Expressway (Route 60). The actual coordinates for the three microcaches are:

Micro A: N40° 27.504', W080° 13.415'

Micro B: N40° 27.757', W080° 09.759'

Micro C: N40° 27.247', W080° 11.756'

There is a safety hint for Micro A. It is located at trail (ground) level and requires no climbing. If you follow this tip, you are likely to have very poor GPS reception as you close in on the microcache.

Please return the coordinate sheets to the micros and re-hide them carefully, and be discreet when hunting for them. This trail is quite busy with joggers, walkers and bikers.
