Geocache Description:

A pleasant bike/hike, a bit over 5 miles round-trip in an area with flatwoods, grasslands and cypress swamp.

If you like JB Starkey Park or Flatwoods Park, you'll probably love this area. Except for some SWFWMD wellheads and access roads, this location is largely undisturbed.

Deer are everywhere here...I saw at least a dozen while placing the cache.

Detailed information about this area and a map can be found here: http://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/recguide/pdf/8.pdf

The first mile is on a paved road, the next 1.5 miles or so is a mix of two-track roads over grass, gravel, and dirt.

To reach the trailhead, take Ehren Cutoff to Pump Station Road. Vehicle parking is at N28°17.082 W82°25.642. The security gate may be intimidating, but it's perfectly OK to use the pedestrian pass-thru to enter. From there you will hike or ride on a paved road to the next pass-thru at N28°16.969 W82°25.409. Please sign in here and review the signboard map and info about the area.

After the water control structure (i.e. dam) follow the unpaved wellhead trail to the south. There are lots of criss-crossing side trails...some of them will lead you to the cache, some of them will just lead to you nice scenery along the banks of Cypress Creek. This area lends itself to exploration...there are lots of nice views of the creek from the side trails. If yout just head straight for the cache, you might miss some of the nicer scenery in the area.

If you don't like getting really wet and muddy, be sure to approach the cache site from the WEST when you're very close. If you approach from the EAST you have a good chance of Boonieman-like conditions. :)

The coordinates may be slightly off (no WAAS, lots of tree cover) but it will not be hard to find if you're in the area. It's at the base of a very large oak tree surrounded by palms.

The container is an ammo box with a Geocaching.com sticker. I'm more into the journey than the cache contents, but there are some nice geo-goodies in here anyway. ;)
