This is one of a series of caches hidden in the Mt Carmel Conservancy.

Take the Rosehaugh turnoff in the vicinity of the Crocodile Country Inn - Nelspruit. The dirt road will lead you to the Mt Carmel Conservancy. The co-ords are taken from the road next to where the cache is hidden.

If you look alongside the road as you drive along, you will see a series of mine shafts from days gone by.

The cache is hidden at the biggest of all these mine shafts - we have not explored inside the mine shaft as it seems old and fragile inside (dangerous)- therefor the cache is hidden right at the entrance to the shaft. What is really interesting is seeing the supports they used to prevent the walls from collapsing.

Have a look at the listing for Mt Carmel - Broken but not Beaten for the interesting story leading up to this cache hide.

Our # 735, found @ 14h15. Wow! We had no idea about the conservancy and definitely did not know about the mining that appears to have taken place in the past. A nice easy find once we found our way to the access point. We saw no sign of the bats mentioned in previous logs.

We had SUCH a laugh here. Were searching meters away and never saw the mine shaft. I've never been at a mine shaft before - so funny when we actually found the right spot.
Thanks for the cache. It was fun.

Sorry about the delayed log entry....

Found the cache just before sunset, so had to drag some hunters into the dark shaft :-) Lots of bats around, even caught one in a photo!!
TNLNSL - thanks, very interesting!
